Any 4runners towingtravel trailers

I have a 06 v8 sport i tow a 08 rockwood roo 21ss hybrid 4000 lbs +.I have to tow in 4th gear and i get 7 to 9 mpg. My roo is a tall trailer do to the slide out over the wheels.I was just curios if any one els is towing a htt with a v8 4runner and how yours tows.

It sounds like the 4Runner is a good TT vehicle. I just did a search for Travel Trailer and came up with a bunch of threads.

I see pickups with a roof deflector to 'break the wind' for the TT. Would one of those on the roof rack help the mpg?

I don't have a travel trailer but I do tow an 8.5'x20' enclosed car trailer that weighs in at 5,200-5,500 lbs.
Unless I am driving on flat ground I tend to always tow in 4th gear.
Having the transmission constantly up/down shifting between 4th and 5th gear is not a good thing.

Interesting that I tend to see the same 7 to 9 MPG that you are getting.
Lowest MPG I ever got was 6.95 MPG on a trip to Kalamazoo, Michigan last summer.
Flat Turnpike, higher speed limita and some headwinds did not help my MPG on one leg of that trip.

The front portion of my car trailer does sit fairly high above my 4Runner when towing.
After every towing trip I usually have to clean off the upper part of the trailer since it always is covered with dead bugs.
Guess I will have to visit some of the RV/Towing Forums to see if people that use the roof deflectors have seen a measurable increase in MPG after using one.

I tow a 30 ft. Traillite that weighs loaded around 6200. It is a relatively low aerodynamic trailer. I specifically chose it to tow behind the 4Runner. Not many other trailers that long could be towed behind a vehicle as small as the 4Runner. I use an Equalizer sway control hitch. I have gone through high Colorado passes and through very twisty roads. Even in wind I have excellent stability. I do have the auto height control which helps. The 4Runner is ideal for me, because after unhooking I can go over 4 wheel drive trails. My last trip from Texas to Colorado and back averaged 9.2 mpg.
