Any 5th Gen owners remove auto running boards?

Mine are a mess and I was able to FINALLY get both sides retracted (I had push quite a bit while opening and closing doors). I'm pulling the fuse.

Anyway, has anyone actually removed the auto boards and if so how difficult was it?

Yes. I could not stand the amount of snow they collected so removed only the running boards. Very easy. There are four bolts holding each running board in place. I left the retractable arms in place and tied them up using stainless steel zip ties.

The running boards are heavy. After they were removed, my mpg increased as well. At the end of the day, it was a win / win.

No. Removing the boards also made room to install factory mudflaps.


The retractable arms are super easy to remove as well.

curious as to why you would leave the arms in place?

curious as to why you would leave the arms in place?

1. When I decide to sell or trade in I can easily reinstall the boards.

2. I did not want to go down the rabbit hole of removing the arms, then removing the wiring and switch.

If I removed and installed standard running boards, would i need to purchase any trim pieces?
