Any experience with this powered sub?

Ive got one, pretty easy install, just use amp kit with wiring an fuse. I put under driver's seat, can feel the bass on your butt when you crank it. I prefer to keep the back free for cargo. Not going to be as good as a big box but not bad. A lot less money than the stealthbox.

It's got very strong reviews overall, and for the money, seems like it would be hard to go wrong. Even if I decide to upgrade to something higher-end in the future, this unit should do a good job of filling in the low-end for now.

I can get you the low end. I just traded in my 05 4Runner for 2010. I removed my Grey carpeted JL Stealthbox and appropriate powered JL Amp (purchased 2008) before turning 05 to the dealer. The gear is now in my garage. If you are interested let me know. Here is a linkg for the JL Box

(Sub has a fabric covered grill vice the black grill shown in link above)
Willing to let box and amp go for 250.00 - you cover shipping from WI to you.

Got it installed a couple weeks ago. It does what it says, decent fill-in for the bottom end, as long as you're not looking to rattle windows. It is too large to fit under either front seat (at least with my manual seats with airbags), so for now I've got it sitting loose in the cargo area. I'm thinking I may mount it to the left rear seatback, but not sure what the structure is under the carpet. It feels like a hard plastic when I tap it, so it should be able to support the weight. I don't want to lose any cargo-carrying capability, so the more out-of-the-way the better.

As far as sound, I'm still tweaking to try to optimize it for the music I listen to (classic rock, alternative, post-punk, alterna-metal, etc), but it definitely fills the void left by the stock speakers (non-JBL). Seems like a good value for the money so far.

Some industrial strength velcro should do the job on the seatback. No screws required and it allows for quick, tooless removal when the space is needed. The hook side of the velcro will grip the carpet on the seatback very well, at least it does in my '03...I have an emergency toolkit and first aid kit stuck back there.

Well this powered sub weighs around 25 lbs, so I'm doubting the velcro will work in this case. :)

Assuming you installed the BASS1200 linked too, Google searches show the shipping weight between 12-16 pounds...might be time to hit the gym a little more if if feels like 25# out of the box. Even if it is 25#, velcro should have no problem and you don't even need to suspend the full weight. One edge of the box can rest on the load floor; the velcro only has to keep it from falling over.

I'm definitely willing to try the velcro option, but what type have you used that has that kind of holding power, combined with sticky enough adhesive to not pull off the sub? I've never found velcro (even the 'industrial' variety) that could hold like that.

I've used both the regular and industrial strength that comes in 10'-20' rolls from Lowes'/Home Depot. According to Wikipedia, 2 in^2 of Velcro can support 175#, but the density of the hooks is not specified. In my own experience, the force required to remove (pulling vs. peeling) my first aid/tool cases from the seat back feels like significantly more than 25# just using the carpet for the loop side...maybe in the range of picking up a 45# dumbbell from the floor. It will depend on how much surface area you cover with hook material, of course.

As you mention, getting the adhesive to stick to the amp case will probably be your issue. I did have some problems with the adhesive sometimes releasing from the smooth plastic cases during the summer heat...the velcro staid on the seat back. I resorted to Amazing Goop as a replacement adhesive...seems to handle the heat better. In lieu of covering the bottom of the BASS1200 in velcro, you might could rig up a "sling" type arrangement to hold the sub in place without actually having to adhere to it...would help if it had handles of some sort, but that doesn't appear to be the case from the photos.

Jim, I just checked. I only used the "standard" Velcro on the first aid/tool kit...industrial was for a different household project. I would expect the adhesive on the industrial strength to be all around better than the standard, but no way to know if it's up to the demands of the car environment...heat specifically. Just looked at the Lowe's website and they're also showing something called Titanium Velcro which is "professional" strength...stuff is considerably more expensive than industrial grade, which suggests even more durability.

FWIW, either here or at Toyota120, some people have mounted CBs to the side of the center console using velcro (or copycat) discs. The CBs were completely suspended without resting on the floor at all. You might search here and there to see if the actual product/brand was identified. I know 3M makes a generic "hook and loop fastener" and 3Ms adhesives are quite good so they're a good alternative to branded Velcro.
