Any good trails in So Cal?

I just purchased "Backcountry Adventures Southern California, the ultimate guide to the backcountry for anyone with a sport utility vehicle".
The text is over 600 pages and includes detailed descriptions (including maps and GPS coordinates) for 153 Southern California off road adventures suitable for a stock SUV. I live in the Coachella Valley and will be checking out some of the local desert adventures and hope to make it out to Death Valley soon.
I bought mine at Overstock.com for $25

Get on the 210 east and jump off at Hiway 39 just past the 57 Fwy. Go north up the canyon past the East Fork bridge and head into the parking lot at the OHV area. Tell the Ranger-Person that you want to go up Rincon-Redbox. Get the free permit and "secret" combination. Enjoy a nice 24 mile fireroad drive through the Angeles National Forest that ends at Angeles Crest Hiway.
If you go on a weekday you'll get your permit at the Ranger Station in Glendora.

We took our new 07 SR5 4X4 on its first off road excursion today. Joshua Tree National Park has an interactive geology tour which requires a 4 wheel drive vehicle. This trail was very easy but it connects to a much more difficult Berdoo Canyon Trail which is 18 miles long and ends up just northeast of Palm Springs. Lots of uneven terrian, large rocks and narrow passageways to navigate. I was getting a little nervous during the tougher passages but the 4runner did great in 4Lo and came away unscathed. We had a great time.

Our girls climbed up the rocks to take a good look at the canyons entrance.
We saw this Hummer parked off the trail. It passed us later on in the canyon and we followed it for a couple of miles ... the driver was giving a tour of the canyon.

Although I have skidplates I had to be careful going through areas like this...my 4Runner is only 1 month old so I wanted to avoid scrapes, scratches and dents.

Only a few more miles left. We had just made it through some of the more challeging areas.

Exiting Berdoo Canyon. The 4Runner did fine and I was able to test out 4Hi, 4Lo, and the locking center differential. There were a few nail biting moments but we escaped with no damage. Besides the Hummer, we saw a Jeep Wrangler, lifted F150 and 4X4Ranger, a few dirtbikes, and a Toyota Corolla that unbelievably tried to enter the canyon (it didn't make it very far)

There is also Hungry Valley OHV area off I-5 and Smokey Bear Road. It is North of Six Flags Magic Mountain before you get to the grapevine. There are tons of trails as well as a 4x4 practice area that has easy, moderate, and difficult areas to practice your driving before you head out to see what your vehicle can handle and what you can expect on such rated trails.

Does anyone know if the gate to Maple Springs in the Santa Ana mountains is open for vehicles. I would like to plan a trip to the peaks of Saddleback Mountain.
In the past I have driven up Maple Springs (Silverado Canyon) and taken the Main Divide fireroad all the way to Ortega Highway (74).
