Any guide how to make the hood scoope functional?

I just drilled 5 3/4" holes straight across to get airflow into the eng compartment to help keep underhood temps down. Alot of people say oh it will get dirty in there and you will get water all over your motor. They must not realize that there are 2 drain holes already in the pocket so water doesnt collect there. They drain right on to of the eng

An open scoop does zero for real world performance and it does allow dust and dirt to collect on the engine and a dirty engine runs hotter and less efficient so any hopes for reducing underhood temps is minimal.
I've yet to read anything positive from opening up the scoop and seems like a waste of time and energy for unproven gains.

The Japanese Hilux Surf with the scoop are a turbo deisels with an intercooler sitting behind it so it has a useful function;on our engines it simply has no proven benefits and IMO isn't worth the trouble.
If there is a proven benefit with cooling i would've done it long ago but spending 10+ years of drag racing,autoxing and road racing I do have an understanding of what works and what doesn't and on our motors there's no benefit to opening up the scoop sincethe cooling effect is very minimal and has no positive or negative impact on performance.

Those of you with the sport models should all be forced induction with intercoolers!!!
