I need to install, not a complete camera, but an auxiliary lens, at a point about 4-to-5 inches *behind* the factory spoiler -- in other words, the lens is further behind the rear window than the spoiler is. This is the only way I can get an unobstructed view of the hitch and both corners of the bumper.
The lens housing would be attached either to the top or the bottom of the spoiler. But having the lens sticking out that far will look hokey (and attract vandals). So I'm looking for ideas on how to make the lens seem like it's integrated into the spoiler, with only the glass front surface of the lens visible (barely).
The only idea I have so far is to fabricate a fiberglass rear-ward build-out of the center of the spoiler, and the built-out part would house the lens. And even then, I'm fuzzy about what would be the best way to seamlessly attach the built-out part to the stock spoiler.
