Any luck getting wholesale prices from local dealers?

All,

I've been using some of the wholesale mail-order dealers for my Toyota (and Ford and Honda) parts for years. Their online lookup tools and near-wholesale pricing has beat my local dealers for parts by a long shot.

I am in the process of moving and my new location will have a Toyota dealership literally 5 minutes down the street.

Has anyone ever successfully negotiated wholesale pricing on parts at a local dealership? I don't think I'll be in there every week, but perhaps a couple of times a month. It sure would be nice to be able to get the same pricing I'm getting on the web and the ability to go pick up the items in person (saving a little on shipping).

Anyone have any success to share, things I can try?

Yeah I'm sure they would love to pay their hourly parts department employees to do labor for you, pay for your shipping, invest their own money placing the order and then hope that you come back and pay them wholesale for it. Let us know how that works out for you.

Maybe "wholesale" is the wrong word - what I'm talking about is the dealers that sell OEM parts at heavily discounted prices over the internet.

How's what I suggested any different than the process these dealers would go through, minus the shipping and handling?

I just figured there'd be more places wanting to be competitive in this day and age, to retain more business.

The parts department vary from dealer to dealer, I've had luck at some of the nicer ones. You just need to ask the parts manager nicely and see what they can do.

However, some I've been too pretty much tell you to f-off, lol. So I do exactly that because I sure as hell ain't giving my business to someone with that kind of attitude.

I suggest you just pop into your local dealer with a print out of the quotes you get online and see how well they can do to match it...as they say, it never hurts to ask right?

Mechanic shops get discounts. I use my buddy's shop name when I order from my local dealer, so I get the same discount. It's still a touch cheaper to order from camelbak though.

Tell them you have a small time shop, ask for a shop discount.

Not quite sure what [MENTION=88265]c_mack9[/MENTION] has up his ass.

Hamer in the valley (los angeles) always gives me pretty good prices just a few cents more than online discounted parts.

South Coast Toyota and Toyota place (orange county) just give a BS price and expect you to accept immediately with no room to budge, i just walk say thanks and walk away.
