Yeah, 20 is gonna suck, but shop around. Surprisingly, Geico is one of the cheapest when it comes to bike insurance, and they were super responsive when I hit a deer on my Tenere a few years ago.

I pay $120 a year to insure 2 bikes. Well, technically, I insure 3 bikes... but I sold the third one a while ago... but in the non-sensical world of insurance, it is cheaper to insure 3 bikes than 2... my cost would go up $20 a year if I reported the third bike as sold. Either way, that is cheap as shit.

You may want to consider dropping to liability only and then putting the extra coverage for theft / vandalism / fire / animal strikes.
 
I ride a 2006 Honda Shadow Spirit.

Unfortunately I laid it down a few weeks ago in a turn and am laid up with a broken collarbone for at least another week. Good news is I've got the rest of the winter to get it repaired and back on the road for spring.

30/70 street comfortable/trail: KTM 350 XCF-W

50/50 street comfortable/trail: KTM 500 EXC

60/40 street comfortable/trail: KTM 690 or Husky 701

Mostly street and occasional dirt/gravel/forest service roads, any of the bigger bikes are fine.

There's no real swiss army bike but I'll be damned if I don't feel my KTM 350 answers all my needs. Road a 135 mile ADV ride (gravel/dirt/forest service roads) the other day with a group, mostly guys on GS1200's, etc and while I was ripping through the gears I kept up on the street sections and was obviously fine on the off road, then at the end of the ride there was a short hare scramble course that was optional and only one guy on a KTM 990 went up it besides myself.
 
SO many bikes listed here I would like to have, especially a KTM enduro. At this point I have 2 Harley's but have had bikes most of my life. Love both of what I have, 01 Road King built to the hilt and super customized with so much I could have easily bought a 3rd. Then I have an 08 Road Glide that is my long haul go to bike.

The bike felt great. So much more power than the Harley. Throttle was a little twitchy with the ride by wire but I guess I would get used to it. Handled nice. Seat height is quite high. I'm 6ft and I could barely touch the ground on the ones I sat on. Seat was lowered all the way down and I was still flat footed on one side and kind of tiptoed on the other. I'm still looking for a better deal so I didn't buy that one. I can't believe how the prices went up on these things. Was looking for one 2 yrs ago and they were in $10-11k range, now they're any where between $18-21. Not gonna pay that.

as it stands the Hyper is like 443lbs wet and the GS is 525 wet, and thats including the 6.5 gallons of gas the GS holds over the 4.2. so 82lbs different (quite a lot)

i know i know, roll your eyes because me trying to lighten the GS is laughable in itself. i just really like the GS's but i don't like how piggy they are - i know they can be made to be tossed around a bit.

i have no use for saddle bags or anything like that. all my trips would be lived out of a tank bag, a backpack and a duffle strapped the the tail

I've been riding for 20 years. I'm not a "big guy" either, but find the GS the absolute perfect bike for me. 5'9", 150 lbs, 32" inseam. Numbers are deceiving on that bike. It does not feel like it's 525 lbs. I take the bike everywhere. Over curbs, on gravel, roads, twisties up the mountain road and long highway trips. It also does wheelies like a boss. 50,000 miles and nothing but preventative maint. Oil changes, bevel gear oil changes, tires, brake fluid, brake pads and a battery on the "newer" liquid cooled model.

I've owned a ducati. Never again. EVER. I cannot ride something that I cannot rely on. Every time I rode, I had to worry if I'd get home. They look good, they ride very well, sound good, but for a new bike (when I owned it); the reliability is awful.

I love the FZ-09's but don't want to afford the insurance. My R1200GS yearly insurance is just under $300, full coverage, 500 deductible with lots of medical coverage for myself. I went looking at a FZ-07 or 09, $2500 and $3200 a year! For giggles, I looked at the S1000R bike, $350 a year. I don't understand insurance.

Damn man... Where do you live? Guessing MO, but figured I would ask since your insurance quotes were so high. I am 34 with a less than pristine driving record to say the least and I pay $642 per year for $500 deductible for my FZ-09. I am with you on the insurance... No way would I pay $2500 or so bucks just to be insured.

All great bikes you listed above though! Enjoy the ride... you got a nice one!
