Any new V-8 coming

The new V6 will have less torque than my 2003 4.7l V8.
Word on the net is that the 2010 4Runner will feature the 2.7L 4 cylinders currently introduced in the Venza and a slightly modified version of the current 4.0L V6, both with a 5-speed automatic.

i heard that toyota is discontinuing the 4runner and landcruiser?
You must have heard incoorectly - even Toyota is leaking teaser pics of the 5th gen T4R, see this thread: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?t=53361

Anybody know whether or not the 5.7 would fit in the 4runner? Is the 5.7 the same block as the 4.7? The 5.7 in a 4runner would be one hell of a ride:bouncy:

The 5.7 will NOT be put into the 4runner based on the information put out at my last regional meeting. It was put so nicely, "if customers want a 5.7 in an SUV bad enough they'll buy the Seqouia"! Somebody mentioned a few posts earlier about the 4.6L going in, that is a real option. I think Toyota is just waiting to see how well they sell in the Tundras first. It is a bada$$ little motor though! 310 HP and 327TQ!!! Not to mention 4MPG better on the highway!!! I think that the 4runner would be sick with the 4.6L in it, my 4.7 gets down the road OK with 33's and a Toytec Lift, another 75 HP wouldnt hurt a thing! Personally Id rather have the 310 HP and 20MPG over the 401HP and 17MPG which is really more like 14-15MPG based on my experience. :vader:

I now that toyota is not looking into putting the 5.7 in the 4runner for production. my question is would the 5.7 fit in the 4runner? Are the engine mounts the same and will it bolt up to the trany? I want to find a 5.7 and stuff it into my 4runner.:rocker:

Just looking at the 5.7 and then looking under my runner's hood I think the 5.7 is too wide. I'm sure someone could do it. It seems a lot wider than the 4.7. Now the 4.6 I haven't seen yet but I'm guessing that it is the same design only smaller stroke and bore. Either one would be fun though. I've been pondering this swap for a while now. I think if I could have the 5.7 in there I would probably do the TRD supercharger as well. You know, a 500hp 4runner would be just about right.

I am thinking that this is the next step in this never ending hobby. I am going to keep my eyes open for a 5.7. I think the swap is a killer idea. If there is a will there is a way!
