Any one install quick release bolts to skid?

Thinking about installing quick release bolts where my skid plate bolt holes are. That way every time I get here caked in mud I can quickly drop the skids and hose them out

Considering some utilizing cotter pins and eliminating the treading and unthreading all together

Anyone else done something similar or have any suggestions?

the pin will have to be recessed so it is not exposed and will need to be supported from the back side in case there is an impact.

I too would be interested in a quick release system. There's just so many times the soft factory weld nuts will put up with bolting and unbolting. Maybe a flush 1/4 turn fastener like what's used to hold race car body panels on, beefier of course. Please keep us posted if you come up with something.

But you would have to modify the four runner side to accept a quick release system like this.

It'd be interesting to see how far you actually get with this idea. It definitely would be nice to have something that quick and easy. I take it you're not wheeling too difficult of terrain and using factory skids for this to work. In my situation, a cotter pin wouldn't last a second trying to hold steel skids up where I go. Not to mention the rattling that will come because it probably won't be strong enough to keep pressed together and to the frame/cross members. Cool idea though.

The RCI front skid is only 4 bolts and way easier to deal with than the factory skid.
Invest in that instead of trying to make the factory tin foil easy to remove.

I have always strived to make sure my skids are as tightly attached to the vehicle as possible, but I applaud your endeavor.
