Lifting
I lifted my 4R with suspension two years ago and I'm not happy so I did BL a week and a half ago. I'm not going down again to stock. The only lift to add on my 4R is to get 35" or SAS with 37". I love my 4R more than ever.

Do you NEED to lift it? I'm still on the stock suspension in my Tacoma and with 32's and sliders, I can get to a lot of places. My leafs are shot, though, so I'll be doing the whole suspension this year. Just remember to go with a quality kit and you won't regret it. If I had a 4Runner, it'd be the Sonoran Steel 7.2 all the way.

My 98 has 202k on it and it got lifted with about 175k. The main thing is if you get the threaded body adjustable CO's is not crank them up to high. Make sure you only lift the front 3" or less. While the stock suspension works great off the shelf you will appreciate the added ground clearance by doing the lift. I will say expect to replace your CV boots simply because they are 12 year old rubber and may not take to the change to well but everything else will be fine.

which lift did you go with? I bought the toytech "most popular 3"" lift and it rides like shit.:shrug:

I agree with the CV boots not liking it. Mine only had ~100k when I lifted mine and the boots tore maybe 4-5k miles after i lifted it. I needed new shocks and it made a world of a difference replacing the suspension components. I don't regret having to change the boots, but was more so annoyed that I had to do it after.

My 4Runner is my DD so it needs to perform on the street as well as the trail and I know my trucks limits on the trail and am happy with what it's capablities are so I've been hesitant to put a real lift on my truck but I'm fortunate I have the taller OEM coils and the +1 tires really help. Sliders coming soon.
I plan on buying a more sensible cheap car for the street and then maybe I'll sacrifice it's street performance.
These pics seem to make it taller than it is but I do have about 36" at each corner from gound to wheel well lip.

Once you lift it, you will notice everyone else running around with no lift and feel sorry for them, and giggle cuz' they don't know what they are missing out on. :jump:
That being said, don't go with a crappy lift, and don't buy one just for looks. Do your research and buy a lift that will suport your intended use. If you want sick twisty nasty, go with SS 1.2, as it gives you lots of flex but is still comfy on the road if your truck is light. OME makes excellent products, but you must get the right ones for the weight carrying requirements of your truck. For example, my truck is a heavy pig, so I've got heavy Prado suspension on it(heavier duty than the kits you can buy for 4runners). Works well for me, but took a little trial and error to get the mix right. I am a solid OME customer, and don't think you can really go wrong with ARB products, but thats just me. I do not have first hand experience with any other lifts, but have heard good things about Total Chaos and All Pro.

hey man, i got 96Limited w/lockers. I wanna do the toytec lift, but is it really $1,000 for a 3'' suspension lift? it there another way i can go an spend about $600-700? thanks.

used land cruiser coils and old man emu front coils do a search for lc coil lift

The complete OME suspension is $699 at toytec, I got it and love it. It gives you some coil and shock choices too.
