Any one seen this body mod before?

I was at the local taco bell the other night and saw this 4runner. I thought it was kind of interesting so i wanted to throw it up here. pic was taken from my cell so might not be the best quality.

There are a few people running that MOD on the other boards. Usually have a lot of other mods to go with it. The idea is to make it less top heavy when wheeling. I have though about doing that to mine if/ when I take major body damage.

Because a truck has a longer wheel base isnt as comfortable for the rear seat passengers and they already had big money into suspension and other mods usually before doing that to minimize being as top heavy. Most of the ones I have seen are SAS

It looks cool as hell. Seen it before, looks a lot like the Hilux's we drive over in the sand box. And like Pikeman said, I wouldn't do it until my body was trashed.

when modding has gone wrong, and you start modding just to mod, instead of having a goal buying the vehicle to get you to that goal and modding it to accommodate you...why not start with a crew cab of some kind and then build from there? my opinion.

My friend has done 2 80 series landcruisers like that. One was bobbed like the pic above and the other one is like a regular cab pickup. He has plans to dovetail the rear.

I think this is stupid unless it is a purely off-road rig, but then why make it look nice like that.

It doesn't looks like this guy actually takes it off road serious enough to warrant this mod. Probably just a mall crawler, did the mod to attract chicks. About as toolish as it comes.

See, it works great for dedicated rigs. I wouldn't want to drive those everyday though.

That brown one was a daily driver but she is out for the count now. been completely parted out as of May of this year. "Cattywampus"

The grey one is a fairly recent purchase. "Lorena BobIt" and it is dedicated sitn on 40's.

Well using the 4Runner vs Tacoma Crew cab as an example:

4Runner WB= 105.3 Rear LR= 34.9 Base Payload= 1355 Towing 5000 Frame fully boxed
Tacoma DC WB= 121.9 Rear LR= 33.5 Base Payload= 1395 Towing 5000 Frame partially boxed and weaker.

The 105-106 Wheel base is one of the best for off-roading, other vehicles that use this are the Jeep Unlimited TJ's, Ford Bronco's 70's-90s, Chevy K5 Blazers 70's-90's. Jeep Cherokee's and Grand Cherokee's
With the DC Tacoma you would need to have a couple more inches of lift in order to have the same break over height.

CJ80- you can actually buy a factory built 80 and 100 series LC in the Middle East like your friends. I just wish they offered them here in the states.

i've seen guys at moab with the mid-80's toyota pick ups that have the chopped bed for departure angles and all, which i understand. i agree with a couple of you guys where if i had major body damage then i'd consider this mod. does the lift gate still work on something like this?

Puppetz- I think if you wanted to work hard enough to make it functional you might be able to. My goal would be to get the window to work mainly and not so much the hatch.

I'm not planning on doing this ever, just thought it was unique on a 4runner. One of my favorite features on the 4runners is the power rear window:thumb3:

i think its different and nice looking at different angles but from a side view it looks weird to me just bc the rear is soo short. There is one on Pirate4x4 thats is pure awesome tho!
