Any opinions on Jaos stuff?

I just bought my first 4runner, it's a 97 sr5. I want to start doing some easy mods before I get into lifting it and getting new wheels. I was thinking of some off road lights to put on a brush guard, bull bar, or light bar. I was thinking of going with the Jaos but man is that stuff expensive. I don't know if it would be worth putting that kind of money into that mod. I might go with the Westin brush guard or a Sumatra 3000 grill guard. Some feedback would be awesome.

Not to put down brush guards but they are known as "damage multipiers" in my circles. They do provide you with that "look" if that is what you are after though. If you want protection from rocks or trees up front get a new bumper like a TJM, ARB or my favorite the Shrockworks.

JAOS stuff is really good quality. It is made for your model and will always fit good. So if you like what they have and can't find a comparable product from another brand or want to stick with a "Jaos" 4Runner it is a good way to go. I do know the Jaos brush guard is mounted in 6 places unlike the other ones that are usually mounted to the 2 tow hook spots so that probably is the best option if you choose one.

Jaos also has a light bar that would work great, you wouldn't have to get a new bumper and you wouldn't have a bull bar sticking out to reduce your approach angle.

Just my opinion, a few thoughts to start you off.

JAOS products are high quality and the price reflects that. If you just want a brush guard to put some lights on I wouldn't spend the money on a JAOS brush guard.

Thanks to both of you for responding.

This is the first vehicle that I want to use for camping, mountain biking and some moderate off-roading. I know that brush guards are often for posers but I do want to mount some sort of auxiliary lighting on the front. Dave, that's what I was thinking - the Jaos lamp stay with a set of PIAA or Hella lights. I think it might be what I'm looking for. I'm not sure if I can fund a new bumper... maybe in the future.

Good Luck with chasing down the Jaos part for our truck. some parts arent even made anymore. Like the front skid plate.

Here is that light bar. Find your model on the list. You can look at ther retailer page and then get on the hunt for one of these. If you wanted the brush guard I saw they only have 2 left. So this could be your one last chance if you wanted to go that route.

I agree with the above. I had a guard on my 98 and it def. multiplied the damage to the front bumper when my buddies mom backed into it at 10 mph. The result was having to buy and new chrome bumper and bottom valence. The guard was salvaged with alot of heating and beating. As for JAOS I dont care for it. They do however have a cool remote spotlight.
