Any reason not to replace current 4Runner with a new Sequoia?

Any reason not to replace current 4Runner with a new Sequoia? eep:

Don't have any complaints with our 08 Runner at all really like it. Does it make smile like my 71 Cuda no but I think it looks okay and better than the current SR5 (I hate that front end) and all in all it is a good vehicle. But thought about what if mother Toy makes the 2019 and unibody I'm not going to be happy with it as a tow vehicle. I don't four wheel with it I tow our 20' boat and it's our winter and travel vehicle.

Stopped by the local Toy dealer to have a good look at the Sequoia. Yes it's a little bigger and little less fuel mileage but on a 2500 mile trip only really equals about another $30.00 worth of fuel but is roomier and like the extra storage. Haven't driven one yet but I don't suspect I would really find it unappealing. Not sure there is a down side. I had a pickup trucks for about 20 years before our first Runner and always had a cap on them and when I decided to do the Runner thing instead I bought a 10 X 7 utility trailer with 15" wheels so that's my pickup truck now. Not really seeing much of a down side.

Now if mother Toy doesn't screw the runner up I may stick with it.

I like the new Sequoias a lot. One issue - headroom, or lack thereof. If you're over 6 foot you might find the headroom a little cramped compared to the 4R, which is pretty embarrassing for a truck that size.

Can the Sequoia be optioned with no sun roof? We deleted the sunroof on our 17' OR Premium. The increased headroom is nice.

Matt beat me to the price thing. We have 3 vehicles now....the T4R is the "new" one being an '06 model. All with over 130K but I spend money to keep them up (belts, hoses, fluids, suspension, etc) so there's no reason they won't all go 200K at least.

I went from the older style Tundra to the T4R. I really missed some of the interior features and size of the Tundra so I looked really hard at the older Sequoia. At the end of the day I had to decide did I want something primarily as a "Toy" to take the kids camping and offroading or was it going to be the family wagon and daily driver. I think I chose well.

With that said.....our Sienna Van is getting long in the tooth and the Wife keeps casually throwing out little things she's read about the new Sequoia. I'm not sure why she's itching for one other than the "new" factor. Heavier, worse gas mileage, harder to get get in/out (especially the 3rd row seats).

Best case....keep the T4R and get a Sequoia too !!!

I've got a 3rd Gen 4Runner, then bought a used 2008 Sequoia 4x4 while I was looking for a low mileage 4th Gen V-8 Runner at a decent price. The Sequoia was a Craigslist buy, soccer mom driven, well maintained and high mileage. It's been a treat, absolutely love it. The 5.7 is smoother and has great power. Mileage is not bad for a 6000lb vehicle with a 9,500lb tow rating but no where near the wife's RAV4, duh.

With 220,000 on the Sequoia I starting looking at lower mileage 4th Gen 4Runner V-8's. Pulled the trigger on a Limited 2007 with a 100,000 earlier this year. It's smooth running and nice, stock except for a 3" lift that was just installed, all maintenance current.

Funny thing, I like the Sequoia better, quite a bit. The added room, much - much better performance with the 5.7 and most surprising the Sequoia gets BETTER gas mileage than the 4.7 Runner. Not a lot better but better and it weighs 1500 lbs, more, stand taller and tows better too. I tow a 5,000lb boat and though the Runner is rated 7,000 and does decent the Sequoia wins there too, longer wheel base, better torque/power, a bit better brakes and 8' of room in the back with the two back row seats folded. The roof rack is bolted in 3 places on each side with a total of 6 bolts instead of 4.

If rock crawling isn't in your future I think you'll like a current generation Sequoia. Not knocking the 4th Gen Runner, just like the Sequoia a lot.

They're more difficult to find without a sunroof, but even without one the struggle as real. 2007 and older Sequoias were great for headroom. The latest body style leaves much to be desired in that department. I'm 6'4" and pretty evenly proportioned, and in a new Sequoia with sunroof and seat all the way down, I have to stick my head up into the sunroof hole or my hair will rub the headliner, which is very annoying. Sad because I really wanted to buy one.

IMO Sequoia's suck. They just aren't big enough inside to justify the cost. Haven't been updated in years. If I was going bigger it would be Tahoe/Suburban/etc

If the next Gen Sequoias updated the styling to being boxier again and improved headroom I would absolutely consider one.

Big enough...they are a tundra with a topper essentially. They are massive? Those Chevy's are worth crap in 5 years let alone the reliability on those is poor.

I have been looking at Sequoias as an alternative to the LC, because people seem to want insane amounts for a 15 year old LC with almost 200k miles well because its a LC. Just get the Sequoia which is just as big if not bigger with the new models and also a little cheaper if/when repairs come up.

I say if you need the extra space then the Sequoia makes perfect sense OP

Indeed, on paper both the Sequoia and 4th Gen T4R have 39.7" front headroom, but in practice it's very different. Best advice I could give is to sit in one to be sure.

Also front legroom, another kicker for tall guys, Sequoia - 38". 4th Gen T4R - 42". Granted the Sequoia will sit different due to there being more seat height than a T4R, but it all boils down to test driving one and playing with the seat adjustments to make sure it will be Comfortable. If you're under, say, 6'0''-6'2'' none of this will be an issue of course.

6'3 and after a while on some roadtrips I start getting fidgeting and not have enough width between the door and center console. I haven't had an issue though with headroom in my sunroof 4r.

I wouldn't order it with a sunroof if I had a choice I never use it. On the other hand I'm not over 6' tall either. But yes I am surprised it has less headroom than the Runner.

Don't own any Garbage Motors items. Been there done that never has been a good out come. I don't know how so many love them. Got 5 of their trucks once and one was worth a crap. All had rear mains leaks, water pump issue, standard transmission issue, brake issues, paint issues all before 6 months old. GARBAGE!!! I go an going for reliability. I want to change the oil and tires when needed and drive it and use it. Not sit in a waiting room getting something else fixed. GM once build a good vehicle but that was a long time ago before a lot on here were born.

If you can drive parking isn't a problem. Vehicles are a third the size they were. Unfortunately they are making some parking spaces and the same. But If you can drive parking isn't a problem.

Some here kept saying bad fuel mileage bad fuel mileage but on a 2500 mile trip only really equals about another $30.00 worth of fuel. So I think I can handle that. Do I wish it was better sure I do. My Fusion gets 34 miles per gallon but it's not going to tow my boat is it.

I'm not in any hurry. My 08 V6 Runner tows my 20' bass boat just fine any where I want to go and still looks new @ 94,000 miles. But as stated if mother Toy screws the update on the next version Runner I'll be in a Sequoia. The 2018 TRD Sequoia looks interesting.

Double checked last night, my current gen Sequoia with leather, the '07 4Runner with leather both in same driveway. The Sequoia has a lot more room for the driver, leg room and all around. Head room is more but not a lot. I'm barely 6' but always have my 4Runner seat all the way back to drive. I never have the Sequoia seat all the way back. The earlier Sequoia's may be different, never owned one.

Again, I like both vehicles- heck I haven't even dumped the old 3gen Runner as I have a soft spot for it's reliability and off road manners. Made it my airport car!

I looked at the numbers on the Toyota site a few weeks ago did that side by size comparison.

For the too big people the Sequoia is 15" longer just 4" wider than the Runner a whole 2" a side!

For the too cramped people the only place the Sequoia is smaller inside and it is by a substantial amount considering it is head room. The Sequoia looses 4.5" to the Runner which I agree is crazy! So yeah it your a tall person your out of luck here. But every were else as expected it's larger.
