Any specific years , models, engines etc to stay away from in the 3rd gens?

I might be selling my 4th gen and going to a 3rd gen. I am going to be buying a new truck and might need to use some of that equity in my 4runner for help with the cost. But I still want a 4runner so going to a 3rd gen might be in my future. I was wondering if there is anything in these rigs I want to avoid, Like an certain model engine or tranny or whataver , thanks guys.

Can’t really go wrong with the 3rd gens honestly. Hope you end up finding “The One”, you’re gonna love it.

Did they put the 3.0 in a 3rd gen, if so I would avoid that

also the 2001 and 2002 has a brake master cylinder that will run a couple of grand new, or used for about 500

in my opinion, 99 and 2000 are the way to go.

No 3.0 engines in the 3rd gen - just 3.4 and 2.7

Center console mod is a lot easier then removing all that electronic push button multi-mode 4x crap. If my j-shifter breaks I can still move things manually from underneath. lol

I just did some reading, the SR5 auto's in 99-00 have the j-shifter too. Only the Limited has the multi-mode.

I really do like the simplicity of a j-shift non-driver assist vehicle. Now the big hurdle will be finding a Taco that meets those criteria. ANd yeah, it's pretty shitty I can't get a stick. Maybe I should just get a divorce. lol

LOL Look, my girl cant drive stick, too effn bad, I wouldn't want her driving it anyway. If her Outback is down for some reason she can take my Accord Coupe & I'll drive the 4runner. :banana: The only reason I didnt buy a manual 6cyl Coupe is so she can drive it as a back up.
