Any tips on cleaning headliner/sunroof liner?

Sorry to raise the dead here, but my carpets and headliner are in some serious need of cleaning.

I was hoping to just do the $29 RugDoctor rental from HomeDespot and not have to remove the headliner to clean it. Did you have success with this, Street? Really hoping I can just get the hose attachment for the RugDoctor and use it upside down on the headliner. If not, maybe the Bissell Little Green?

It's been...oh...maybe 7 years since the carpets have been cleaned in mine, and it's reaaaaallly gettin' funky in there. I spotted some white mold not too long ago under the rear weathertech mat. I'm sure just running the RugDoc over this interior a few times will vastly improve things even if it doesn't get everything up.

A rug doctor will work, but dont use it like that bro, water will go everywhere. Use the attachment and like 8 hours and many gallons of hot water to get all the soap out.

Wait, are you saying to remove the carpet and then use the carpet cleaning machine? Hoping to find a solution to clean it while it's in place, so I'll look into picking up a little green Bissell instead. It seems like people have good luck with those and not having to remove the carpet to clean it.

Still open to hearing others experience with renting carpet cleaners to use on the carpet and headliner while they are still in the car.

Yes, i removed the carpet and put down peal n seal to sound deaden on a budget. My buddy helped take the seats out and came back over and put them in, but i did everything else in a weekend. Well worth the $50to rent a machine, 67$ in seal n peal from mcmastercarr and i dunno 6-12 hours. Follow ripcords thread for more info.

I felt like i got maybe 10 cups of coffee outta the floor. Be careful to not use more than a capfull of soap or cleaner. And resolve spray is your friend. Ultra foamy is a good suggestion for the headliners just spray and vacuum away. I need to order some!

Mine was pretty dirty as well, i went down to the fabric store and bought some faux-leather vinyl, a couple cans of glue, and a roller, and it came out pretty nice. it took some time but i think it was worth it, its easier to clean and matches the leather door skin color.

+2 for Tuff Stuff, I regularly film orgies in my truck and this stuff works great to clean the loads off the ceiling!

Same here! Purple power soaked in a rag works great too BTW. Tip: the seat bolt mod is a great way to get an extra foot of space in there for the next filming!

10% Simple Green or Zep carpet cleaner diluted

Just spray on the diluted cleaner then use a lightly damp microfiber rag to PAT it clean. Don't scrub just Press and lift.

I'd try K2R on just the spots, maybe applied with a little paint brush and allowed to sit.

Do you know what caused the spots?

I use Huggies Baby wipes....yes, baby wipes! cleans great and good for leather as well. My headliner and visors were nasty from previous owner. Used small package of baby wipes and now looks like new!

That is funny, but even a regular home cleaning mop can help you out in this situation. Check some available models here http://www.bestproductspro.com. These are truly the best options which are available on the market right now!

I was pretty scared to use any chemicals or soap/water. I didn't want the adhesive to come off from under the fabric.

I went with a steam cleaner off amazon. The one I got has an attachment where you can put a microfiber towel/sock to scrub & lift off dirt (https://amzn.to/2Y1ByB0)

My headliner had a ton of grease stains, dried up dog slobber, etc. from the PO and this thing worked like a charm.

New to the forum here. My father gave my 16yr old son his 2000 sr5 with 180K on it. He is the second owner since 20K miles and has every single maintenance record since day one. Its in great condition but both my parents were smokers. We had it detailed and they got rid of the smoke smell but didn't want to touch the headliner since it was so old. I was surprised since it really isn't your usual headliner with a foam backing and adhesive. Anyways, it was filthy from all those years of smoking. I searched here and read as much as I could and finally decided to go with the Heavy Duty Foam by HiTech. I was extremely skeptical but after my first spray followed by a wipe with a dry towel, I was amazed!!!! I couldn't believe the difference and just as advertised, it didn't leave it wet. Also, if you use a nice even pressure, you can even smooth out most scuff marks. I am extremely amazed at how well this product worked and thankful for the suggestion.
