I've got dry crusted road salt on the carpet near the drivers door. I intend to get weathertechs to keep the salt on the mat in the future....but would like to get this out of the carpet first. I've tried various carpet cleaners, and no luck. Anybody else had luck with something? A quick google search said to try warm water and vinegar. I'll give that a shot tonight.
Any tips on how to get dried road salt out of carpet?

Maybe user error?
I have to do this every spring after the thaw. Brush and vacuum as much salt grime out as possible (wet/dry vac +1!), then go to town with an all purpose cleaner (I use Chemical Guys Nonsense diluted on the stronger side, test in inconspicuous spot if you're unsure) and a very stiff hair brush. Use wet/dry vac again, then let it air dry. Redo it again on any tough spots a few days later.
Have never tried vinegar and water, although it makes sense to neutralize the salt.
I find tho that the trick to making it easier in the spring is to not wait til spring. Durhh. I spot clean on the days it happens to get above 32*F here. Winter has been a little drunk this year.
