Anyone know of any VA or Mid-Atlantic meetups coming up?

Edit: Cold spring bald mountain trail Saturday 12/9, meeting at the speedway in down town Waynesboro (On East Main, at the corner Delphine, next to the dunkin donuts and across from a napa) 8am.

Read further for more info and a link to a map of the trail.

Send me a PM with your name and number if you are coming to simplify communication the closer we get to the date.

I'd like to get some people together to run some of the trails in Jefferson National Forrest out by C-ville.

Bald Mountain trail is good moderate to easy trail so we can get people even with stock rigs to come out.

End of november or early december it really depends on others availability. I work for the fed so my schedule is pretty flexible. I could easily do a day trip though.

Also we would have to consider weather, if the trail closes for the winter season, and level of interest.
 
If the dates work out, I'd be good for the excursion as well. If not, perhaps at a future date.

I'm good with 12/9, and I've managed to convince a coworker to be my swamper / copilot. :)

I'm one with mostly stock suspension (atm - plan to upgrade, but likely won't happen in time for this event), but I do have some recovery gear, and a (cough) hitch mounted winch (cough). :D

We're also both good with starting early - the earlier the better.
 
Ive run it stock, and with a pregnant wife who acted as my spotter. You will be fine, the key is to avoid the deep mud pits and stay on the main trail.

Glad this is shapping up :)

I put that date on my calendar. Hopefully no pressing family matters come up, which seem to happen whenever I want to go trail riding. Not sure if I've seen you around, but I also live in VA Beach.

Im always on the look out for other runners. I have a black t4r.org sticker on my drivers side rear window. It would be great of you can make it out. The idea will be to meet up real early and head up there.

I guess we can figure out when we get there but the next Q is top to bottom or bottom to top.
 
Should we meet at one of the area gas stations to top off and group up or top up on our own once near, then group up closer to the trail?

It looks like the main areas with gas on the I81 side, depending on the direction you're coming from, are:
Harrisonburg (Sheetz / Travel Center / Costco! / several smaller stations)
Staunton (Sheetz / several smaller stations).

Unless, anyone disagrees with me with should meet up at the speedway in Waynesboro. That way we will be in a good position to have access to either end of the trail head.

I think the best course we could take is to take the trail head at the bottom of bald mountain and work our way up. Some of those switch backs are pretty dicey (on a stock suspension) and it was a hell of a lot easier to climb them then try to go down nose first.

I wish I had better pictures but my wife is a terrible photographer and could not multi task when spotting me over the difficult obstacles.

At least you got your wife out there lol. My wife gave me a "hell no!". :wave: :rofl:

I'll be coming in via I95, I66 (to pick up friend), and I81 (or RT340). Looks like the Speedway is about 10 miles East of I81, so that's fine.

This will be my first go at offroading in a civilian vehicle. :) Previous experience was in HMMWVs and M35s, and that was YEARS ago. :D EDIT: So whatever direction you feel is best, I'm good with.
