Anybody else OCD about rattles?

So I love my 4runner, but sometimes it's got some rattles that drive me up the wall. For instance, the seatbelts on the rear bench, when un-buckled, bang against the interior plastic wheel well. Solution? Keep the seatbelts buckled even when no one is using them.

What about your keys? Some folks don't carry many and don't have a problem. I only have about 5 keys on my ring, but they really like to rattle against the dash when I'm driving down the road. I find myself taking everything off the ring, or just holding them while I drive every now and then, but there has to be a better way!

Anybody else have a solution for this rattle?

I carry a ring with my importan keys (home, mail, work, etc.) in my pocket, separate from the car keys. The only thing in my ignition is the Runner's key and remote

But yeah, I'm OCD about rattles, too--if I sit just right, the driver's seatbelt latch clicks and clacks with bumps :AK47:

ya im OCD bout all the noises in my runner not jsut the rattles... haha but ya like the squeaking noise the back hatch cover makes when i go over a spped bump annoys me. I can even hear it sometimes over my subs but i think its just bc i know its there.

I thought I was the only that hated hearing some rattles,LOL.
Seems like maybe the rear storage cover in the back can rattle as it doesn't seem to sit real tight in there.Yeah the seat belts can be noisy too that's a good idea keeping buckled all the time.
Turning the radio up loud seems to make it all go away !

but my subs make stuff in my runner rattle that normally wouldnt so it makes it kinda anooying too so i try to find a good place in between.

GOD YES! I got a non stop squeak from my drivers side interior cargo panel. Im about to rip the whole area out, sound deaden it, and figure out what it is!:gun4:

Chop the exhaust, throw on some good ol mud tires, go to a cold air intake and wala no more rattles:beer:

Rattles are part of the beauty of our vehicles. We all know exactly where our distinct rattles come from. For example, i have one on the right side of my Eclipse screen when it is tilted out, I have several others, and if they stop rattling i know something is wrong.

:dammit: Another rattle! Yeah I'm the same way. I've definitely conquered more than a few, it just feels like a never ending battle sometimes. And winter is always worse for me.

To the OP, if you have the owner's manual, it shows a picture of how you should flip the key ring over the top of the key when it's in the ignition. Supposedly this prevents damage to the transponder chip embedded inside. I do it because it keeps the key ring from swinging around and keeps the keys quiet.

bingo, only time i notice them is when i have the stereo off, and then i still don't care.

Its a truck not a luxury vehicle. If it was a 7 series bmw then i would get mad.

Rattles rank up there with poison ivy and mosquitos. I have a strategically placed piece of wood on my tool box lock to deminish the rattles when I have the speakers bumping, and I need the speakers up to not hear other rattles.

It's just another part of life I'm dealing with. ;-)

If you ever owned a jeep or A IH Scoutt2 you would know rattle. Lack of annoying rattles is one thing I really like about my 4runner

Regarding keys - I have a medium size carabiner that has 3 or 4 rings of keys on it. I separate the truck or car key ring (depending on which I'm driving), and stash the rest in the console. The only thing hanging then is the fob, which doesn't rattle. Has worked well for me for 10 years, and only takes 1 second to pop open the 'biner and put it back in the "gob".

I don't even put the single key on the 'biner, just stick it in my pocket. The rest of the keys hang off the 'biner for the office / home / church...

Plus I honestly believe all those keys hanging off the 'biner was what caused an early death of my Maxima ignition switch and it had to be replaced.

yah I have that drivers side cargo area squeak going on and likewise I am about ready to tear it apart and just leave the trim off until I can narrow it down a bit more...

my boys always laugh at me I go all wacko when I hear some odd noise usually emanating from their cell phones....

for the keys I use those quick disconnects (push and remove) so one disconnect is strictly the Runner key and fob. For the fob itself I got one of those "The Jacket Store" fob covers for $6.99 shipped that cushions it when in my pocket and from hitting the steering column. Preserves the life of the key fob and I no longer accidently hit that panic button pinching it in my pocket.

for sure. i find myself having to take out any loose change in my center console because of the jingling it makes when i go over any bumps... and don't even get me started on exhaust rattles :ybrick:
