Anybody ever go a tint ticket

Dang. I wonder if that policy is in place in SC.

J-money$$$- I think most places that have inspections give out fix-it tickets. I think I'd rather take the ticket instead of having inspections. I've heard those can be a pain.

Just if you get pulled over and get a ticket for something you can pay it off without fixing it. I got pulled over for tint and mudflaps. Luckily i talked myself out of it. the CHP that pulled me over was a But head....

Where I live, if you go to the hearing, your fine will be reduced 95% of the time for no reason other than appearing.

The price of the ticket is buffered/padded for reductions. The reason is, from a business standpoint, requiring hearings employs a lot of people and positions them for more income from different sources.

I guess I have been lucky, mustang runs tint on w/shield and illeagal side windows as well as my runners just illegal side windows, guess just lucky at this point but it pays to show up and get a $$reduction as opposed to $155.
Just make sure they dont give u points for taking the reduction, that's how they do it up here! Oh and another thing it helps to befriend a cop or two and retain thier buisness cards so when you do get pulled over u can ask if" knowing anybody will help" you in that particular situation!
P.S. If you do befriend the law and do something really stupid be polite!lol.

As for the tint debate. "You pay to play." At least fix it to make the truck legal at the time of your appearance to show your commitment if you want any chance of a break.

I have 35% on the front two windows and 5% on the rest. I also have never been pulled over for it, and yes they do have to test it to give you a ticket. But im running legal bc the back doesnt matter just the 2 front doors and windsheild. In GA its a 2nd offence, so they ave to pull u for speeding, but in GA they cant radar you ), they can only trail you to catch you for speeding!!

I'm not even planning on driving the 4runner to the court date. I don't think they have any way of checking that I took it off. If I take it off it's going to stay off. It cost $80 to put on the first time, and it'd probably be even more the second time.

I thought it was a 2nd offense too, I'm gonna call and get clarification on that today. I mean you should be able to call a police today and have the law explained to you right?

2runnersnyynyg- What percent do you have on your windshield? I can't believe you would have to choose between money or points. That's crazy. I would take the money in that case.

No radar in GA? I have paper work(many tickets over the years) that say otherwise.

I got some clarification today from a Police chief. Window tint is a primary offense in South Carolina and has a maximum fine of $200. He also said that since the law requires a sticker in each window with the name of the installer and percent no meter is required.

After learning this I think my best bet is going to admit that they are tinted, but that I didn't know they were illegal. The people who installed the tint did not provide the stickers.

Anyone know how much court fees normally are?

For where? They are routinely running radar on all the interstates I travel...if there's a no radar zone somewhere I'd sure like to know about it.

Here in Colorado LEO's are generally pretty cool about tint unless you are doing something stupid - then its a reason to pull you over.

But, a tinted WINDSHIELD is a guaranteed traffic stop by just about any agency.

I've never quite understood why anyone would want to tint a windshield anyway - I like to see where I am going, and more importantly what is coming at me. ;-)

Ha. I think most people feel that same way. It's only 45% so it's not bad at all. I don't have problems driving at night and really enjoy the extra privacy.

I got one and it was $237! I was like wft?! He pulled me over for doing 54mph in a 45mph zone. I asked to see the radar and he said sure. Checked my tint with his little device and said it was illegal. Said he'd let me off with a warning on the speeding though.

Here in Oregon, anything less than 35% is illegal. On an SUV however, anything behind the driver can be as dark as you'd like.

Ouch. Did you get it reduced? Any idea on why rear tint laws don't apply to SUVs?

Nope. It was still $237. I sold the car like 3 weeks later so I never got it fixed. It cost me $265 to get it tinted, then $237 for the ticket. If I would have fixed it the shop wanted another $100 to remove it and another $265 for new tint. Just way too much for tint in my opinion.

As for SUV's......i'm not sure. Seems like you can hide alot more in the back of an SUV than a sedan so I think the tint law is pretty stupid.

I'd REALLY like to find an optometrist that would give me a note saying I can have windshield tint. I don't know anyone who has one though.

As to the rear of SUVs being exempt: from MA general laws CH 90 sec 9D in part:
"This section shall not apply to:

(1) motor vehicles manufactured with windshields and window glass areas equipped in accordance with specifications of 49 Code of Federal Regulations 571.205 as authorized by 15 USC 1407."
In other words, the factory privacy glass is exempt.
