Upgraded - '10 SR5 to '24 Limited

I bought my '10 SR5 in November of '09 and drove it 175,000 miles, traded it in this past weekend and bought a '24 Limited.

I have/had been waiting for the 6th Gen for the past few years and, sadly, I personally do not like the interior and certain design features. That left me the option to get a '24 or some other make/model.

After some deep thought I decided that the '24 Limited was going to be the best choice, and after driving it the past couple days I am very happy with that decision!

What a huge upgrade going from the '10 to the '24. It is amazing how much different a new vehicles drives as well! The suspension feels like it absorbs the road much better as well, not sure if that is due to the XRES system. Also, I noticed the vehicle seems to be significantly quieter on the inside when cruising from the highway to around town. Again, not sure if that is due to the vehicle being 'new' or them making modifications over time to reduce the noise a bit here and there.

As for 'upgrades' I don't plan on much. Having the truck undercoated next week. I was planning on having the front windows tinted, but I noticed there is already a fair bit of 'tint' to them, almost a yellow color, my old 4R did not have that so I will have to think about that for a bit. I was planning on doing an immediate tire upgrade but I might hold off. It came with the Geolander 96's but I have always run an A/T tire - was planning on going with the Firestone Destination A/T2's. The 96's do not seem as bad as the H/T tires that came with my '10 so we will see how things go this summer.

I really am liking the Wind Chill Pearl color too!

Nice upgrade going from the 10 to 24! Way to let the 6th gen come out before making that decision, the 24 model has had 13+ years of trial and error so you have that in your pocket vs being the guinea pig being first to the new platform.

The 21+ models have alot more electronics than the >20 models did, so you have alot of perks for those aspects of things. New trucks have some better sound deadening in the doors and floors which helps quiet the ride drastically over the 10-13 models. The XREAS system is fairly old (was used in the 4th gen models and other platforms in Toyota) but is amazing with what it can do. Linking all 4 shocks allows the vehicle to really absorb and offer you some of the best ride quality compared to the other suspension options. XREAS does however make adding a lift a little more difficult and once lifted the shocks usually arent super happy if they arent replaced and tend to start leaking pretty quickly after the lift goes on. So try to maximize tire size/fitment without lifting is my $0.02 unless youre ripping the XREAS out entirely and replacing with a conventional system.

In theory I was a guinea pig with my last vehicle being one of the first 1,000 off the line of the 5th Generation. There were some TSB issued back then, transmission slipping between 1st & 2nd, required an update, and the yellowing/fading of the top of the headlights. Other than that I lucked out.

I like the exterior of the '25, but not so much the interior. I feel the '24 is more refined and a bit more on the 'luxury' side than the '25. I know the 4R is not a 'luxury' vehicle, but I still do like it to look nice inside. The new '25, IMO, is geared towards younger buyers and males a lot more than the '24 model. My wife loves the '24 inside but, from the videos and photos, does not like the '25 inside...and I have to agree.

I'm loving all the new electronics so far, of course always something more that can fail or break.

I have to get used to the 'radar cruise control' though. Driving home from the dealership I felt it reduce speed as I approached a vehicle in the left lane, which was interesting to see how it all worked. Then later I was following a sedan in the right lane as we were going the same speed, then noticed traffic was catching me again to realize the sedan has slowly slowed down....and so did I...without even knowing as it was very gradual that time.

I did not lift my prior one and have not plans for a lift for this one.

Given the little to no changes to the 5th gen layout I do not expect much if any changes to the 6th either, not for a long while.

I'm sure the 6th will be a great vehicle, just not the one for me currently.

I am about 1/3 way through the owners manual, after I finish then to the infotainment manual!

I just bought a 24 Limited. I am keeping my 14 Limited which was the first year of the refresh. I wanted to grab one before the 6th gens come out. I know I can run it 10-15 years with few problems. My 14 has Ko2 all terrains and that is the main noise difference for me. I see the 24 has under hood insulation and my 14 does not. I am loving the adaptive cruise. Most of the other stuff I could take it or leave it. They changed a few of the steering wheel buttons so I have to remember which vehicle I am in when changing the radio volume and a few other things. My 14 has the xreas and it started leaking but it saw a lot of wash board fireroads and off road use. I think in normal use it would last longer. The xreas rides very harsh off road and on washboards roads. If it starts leaking it will be replaced with aftermarket shocks but the xreas handles winding mountain road very well. The original xreas was replaced under warrany and the replacement has some small leaks. The 14 only has 81k miles on it. My 24 will be mainly just used as a regular car for right now and the 14 will do the off road work.

2011 SR5 here, drove a friends 2023 Limited for about 45 minutes, felt the same way. I think you made a smart move. Makes me think of the 2002 Limited, the end of a solid run with great options.
