Anybody here ever try a TRD low temp thermostat?

I'm asking because I used to always use 160* Thermostats vs the stock 195*'s on my GM LS1's and L-98's when I was using them for street strip use. Would this help any for summer use in the mounatins or even Florida summer driving? Just curious. Of course we always had to re-program the computer on my GM's for the fans to kick on early in order for the lower temp therm to work properly.

I don't see the need for it in a 4Runner.

I used to own a Ford T-Bird and when I would pull a trailer, the temp would go sky high. I had a lower temp stat installed, and it was better, but it would still climb high when I pulled a trailer.

I used to own a 2000 4R sport with the 3.4l V6. What an improvement over the T-Bird when towing. The temp needle on the 4R never went higher than when driving under normal non-towing conditions, and I drove during the hot summer from Texas all the way to Miami.

Now I own a 2005 4R sport with V8. The temp still never climbs even when pulling a boat.

Just add a bottle of Waterwetter and increase your coolants capacity to remove heat and you'll reduce head temps by over 10F. I saw these results on my datalogger when I had my Eclipse.

there would be people here on the board that will fight you tooth and nail to say to put water wetter in your coolant system. I run it but i know i have gotten questioned on why i would add any sort of chemical to my system.

The emissions system is set to run at "X" temperature, so if you change the thermostat will the computer keep it in a cold loop. I know on another car of mine that got me worse gas millage and it failed inspection.

May be something to check before ya make the big switch.

I've always heard that reducing the thermostat temp will keep the engine from getting to it's design temp and will cause excess sludge to form in the engine.

Furthermore, if the engine doesn't overheat during normal operation, why would you even want to do this?

Toyota ships their vehicles with a very capable cooling system... I have never had one of my Toyota's run hot.

Your truck was engineered and designed to run at a specific temp. Unless you have done specific modifications to the engine that require a lower operating temp you will have problems. Water Wetter is a good product but it has its side effects. Water Wetter creates a milky sludge in the coolant, don
