Hello. This was bolted on the rear of the transmission but my mechanic uncle said he don't know what it is but that I probably don't need it. I trust my uncle but just cause he's never seen one doesn't mean its not important so I figured might as well ask since I have access to the deep collective of the 4runner forums....

I left mine on. No reason to take it off, and Toyota probably put it there for a reason.

Yeah, to stop drivetrain vibrations. :nod: Some of them engeneers - they know what they's a doin'. (Sorry, I've been reading the 'Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' and everything comes out sounding like that :p .)

Tune Mass Damper. Changes the first mode frequency and at the same time dampens any vibrations since it's rubbery.
