Anybody know what this is?

Hello. This was bolted on the rear of the transmission but my mechanic uncle said he don't know what it is but that I probably don't need it. I trust my uncle but just cause he's never seen one doesn't mean its not important so I figured might as well ask since I have access to the deep collective of the 4runner forums....

It's a drive train/vibration dampener. Doesn't hurt anything if you take it off.

Yeah, to stop drivetrain vibrations. :nod: Some of them engeneers - they know what they's a doin'. (Sorry, I've been reading the 'Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' and everything comes out sounding like that .)

Tune Mass Damper. Changes the first mode frequency and at the same time dampens any vibrations since it's rubbery.
