Anybody's muffler rust from the inside out?

Well after 6 winters and only 70k miles looks like I need a muffler already. I heard a buzzing and just did the heat shield in the fall. Tapping the muffler with a rubber mallet replicates the buzzing metallic sound I was hearing and I see a trickle of water dripping right at the outlet of the muffler. I take a lot of short trips so I'm guessing it never gets a chance to warm up enough to burn off all the water in the exhause and rusted from the inside out.

Not sure if I'll go with OEM again but I don't need anything fancy either but I do need a muffler. out:

If it's still working, for now, you can drill a hole at the bottom-rear corner to let out water to prevent further corrosion.

90% of all mufflers rust from the inside-out. Most are due to short trip driving as you said. Exhaust doesn't get warm enough to expel the water (byproduct of combustion).

I have 260k miles on my original muffler.

I went with the Walker SS Quietflow from AAP. Ordered online and saved $25. Very happy with it

Save your receipt. I have the same one and I replaced it under warranty after just two years. Mine rusted through right before the tailpipe flange.

Formerly being from WNY I can sympathize. Muffler it self didn't rot out, but the tailpipe cracked just after the muffler. Hopefully the walker will last for a bit!
