Anyone build a sliding rear cargo tray?

I was looking for a write up / blueprint to build a sliding rear cargo tray for the 4runner. 2016.

I have found some platforms online, but nothing that is DIY built.

You might want to try the for sale section to either post a request or see if anyone wants to get rid if their cargo trays. There have been a few members here in the past that have removed theirs due to not liking them or the space they take up. However, it is a pretty big job from what I remember people saying that put on in a vehicle that didn't come with one.

its actually pretty simple. pretty much just remove your existing liner, line up the brackets, drill out 2 bolt holes and pretty much bolt it all up. at least thats what i remember. lol

Id rather skin some knuckles and make it myself than give more money to the stealership.

I want the flat tray that slides out.
I don’t want drawers for storage, like a lot of guys build

I thought of building a sliding tray as well just haven't gotten the time yet. I can't imagine it would be too hard but if anything, I feel the latching system would be the most complex part, should you want it to lock out and in using an handle.

Building the tray shouldn't be too bad.
I think the biggest hurdle will be figuring out how to attach it to the 4runner.

I don’t want drawers for storage, like a lot of guys build

If you want it to slide out you'll need drawer slides

Drawer slides, yes

I actually have built and used both each for about a year and the HeavyDuty cargo tray is a WAY better solution than the drawer. Even the single large drawer system that I build (best way to build a drawer IMO). The factory cargo tray and the steel tray that I built dont even compare (Strength, tie downs, perfectly level with folded seats, etc)

The biggest advantage is being able to take everything out and have a fully flat floor, I now pack all of my gear in boxes and I can tailor my load out to the activity. If I am going to a park or somewhere not involving serious off-roading, I can bring just my camp and kitchen gear. Furthermore, for solo trips, I can ditch the RTT for some improved MPGs and move all my gear to one side of the truck and sleep in the back.

Do you have any pictures of what you attached the slidin rails to?
That is my main concern about making a tray myself.

There is a base frame and a tray, the base frame is flat and has 4 - 1" tabs that go through the carpet and bolt to the body using the three angled M10 holes in the cargo area. The whole system comes out and only leaves 4 small 1" slits in the rear carpet.

I posted a few more pictures in the drawer/storage system thread. Here is another picture from before the carpet went down and some CAD, so you can see the sub-frame. The sheet metal parts are not quite DIY, they require plasma/laser and a pretty decent sized press-brake. I had the parts fabricated and then I welded it all together.

I imagine you can come up with something similar that can be built completely at home.
