Anyone build/ buy a motorcycle carrier?

I was thinking about building a hitch mounted motorcycle carrier for the back of my 97 4runner to haul my sportbike from time to time (4 hour trip to the beach) and was wondering if anyone else has or has used one.

I planned on welding a channel to the top of a peice of square tube that slides into the receiver, angle bracing from each end of the channel to make a triangle under the square tube,then weld on outriggers on each corner for tiedowns and add a hinged ramp.

Currently have a 3" lift and overload airbags in the rear springs.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'd prefer this over a trailer

Used mine yesterday. TMS steel dual bike carrier. Up to 1000 lbs, Didn't build.

I stripped the second carrier off of it and sold it. I only carry one or take trailer.

Works great. Bike weighs about 400 wet.

Didn't realize just how long my bike was till i just measured it...83" from front of front tire to the very back of the rear tire.

I've got a buddy that uses the one from Harbor Freight. He says its pretty solid. Used it on a trip from NC to PA recently. I believe it was pretty cheap with coupons at HF.

I have the same bike ('91 KDX 200) and am riding 5100s with OME 906s in the rear. What set up do you have for your suspension in the rear? I am thinking about using a hitch bike carrier like this and want to know if I need to install air bags or if the sag is tolerable with my current setup? Thanks for the info!

so this bike is a 96 kdx 650, a missive pig. for my rear springs i have toytec superflex which i love. the weight isnt that bad, it only gets bad when you pack the cab with more stuff.

If i had bags i would install them, it would be much safer and easier to drive with them. but i only haul that carrier maybe a couple times a year when i go to grabe a single bike and dont want to haul my enclosed trailer.
