Anyone build their own mounts for the Rola rack?

I did a search but could only find the one available on 4xinnovations. I'd like to build my own like it but can't figure out how to mount it to the rails.

I made my own using a 1/4" angle iron. I taped some 1/4" flat aluminum stock and and slid it inside the rails. Works well. Very sturdy and lowered the basket.

I would also be interested in seeing your mounts. I enjoy the rack but would love if I could lower it for less than the $75 that Armor Tech is asking.

I have the lowering brackets from armor tech for the Rola rack. They work great and are very strong. There are pictures of the brackets and how they mount in my build thread,i think in the first couple pages.

I'll take some pics if I remember tomorrow. It's really simple. I had to use a friend's drill press though. 1/4" is quite thick for a handheld drill to punch through.

Than you. I agree, that does look pretty simple. My only question is how did you mount the bracket to the stock rail? I see that there are some screws going into it from your rack but am unsure how they attach. Nice looking ride by the way.

Thanks. I chopped 1/4" aluminum (so it doesnt rust) flat bar pieces and tapped threads in it and slid them inside the rails. It was a bit tricky to line it up with the bolts but its on there tight and centered.

Get some good thick coats of rust paint on the brackets, last thing you want is for it to rust and stain the roof.

Just an FYI, you could use 3/8 carriage bolts and nylon washers with nylock nuts. The 3/8 square of the carriage bolt fits perfectly in the cross bar grooves of the stock rails.

What size angle iron did you use? 3"x3"??
