anyone disconnect the passenger airbag?

Didn't some vehicles in the past have an optional turn off passenger side airbag switch? This, because for a time, children were getting injured by the air bag. Vague memory here.......

I'm wondering what the nationality of the physician was. In a lot of other countries there is a switch that allows you to turn off the front passenger airbag because of baby carriers that are placed in the front seat.

Any '2-seater' sold today still has that 'switch/key' to turn it off. All of our P/U's and the Wife's Miata have it, like you said, in the event you have a baby car seat in the front as you obviously can't toss it in the bed or trunk....well not legally at least (with the baby in it).

I agree with all of your concerns!!

At this point I am going to leave everthing as is. I fully agree the seat belt alone could split his breastbone apart again and rupture everything.
He has to go back to the hosp as one of the drain holes is not
healing and I plan to ask that surgeon about this before I touch a thing. I believe my 08 and 06 had the means to turn it off but not sure at this point.

After a couple of weeks out of the hospital, I do not believe an activated air bag will be a problem. The breast bones are wired together with stainless steel wire. I had the procedure done 8 years ago, and I was doing normal everyday things a couple of weeks out of the hospital. I had the surgery twice in two days, as the first one blew apart while still in the hospital. As the other people stated the seat belt would be my greatest concern.

Most new vehicles have a weight sensor or something in them like ours does. I've had my nephew in the front seat and the vehicle shuts of the airbag.

Recall!

Will be attempting to locate the sensor connector mentioned earlier in this thread and disable my passenger airbag temporarily; Toyota has recalled 5th gen's because the airbag may throw potentially-lethal shrapnel if deployed. Dealers in my area cannot get parts now. Verify whether your vehicle is in the recall.

Detroit — Toyota is recalling 1.7 million vehicles in North America to replace potentially deadly Takata front passenger air bag inflators. The move is part of the largest series of automotive recalls in the nation's history.

Takata inflators can explode with too much force and hurl shrapnel into drivers and passengers. At least 23 people have been killed worldwide and hundreds have been injured. The recall covers Toyota models including the 2010 through 2016 4Runner, the 2010 through 2013 Corolla and Matrix, and the 2011 through 2014 Sienna.
