Anyone done a 180 or 360?

I'm curious as to whether any of you 4Runner drivers has ever done a 180 or 360 degree rear spin with your rig.

I once did (in my Porsche) a 720 degree spin purposely at 80 mph on a race track that had about half an inch of standing water on it.

The past few days we've had rain on top of ice. Not that I particularly want to try it on a road, but I've wondered if I could get the 4Runner to swap ends or go completely around in those conditions.

I must be bored today.

The VSC will fight you the whole time. Good luck, do it someplace safe and let us know how it goes.

haha good luck with the 4th Gen, mine wont hardly break loss in wet leaves without the traction control kicking in. The 3rd Gen are pretty good for doing donuts though. I used to yank the e-brake on my 3rd Gen when I was in high school, I wouldn't recommend it.

:iagree: Right now the road outside is covered in the slippery snow and I could barely get it to slip without VSC kicking in. But I've done 360 in my 240sx, I'm not talking about donuts here. Hit a patch of black ice last winter on a empty street, almost didn't recover fast enough to not hit a stop sign.

On the 08's you can turn the VSC off. its kind of nice if you want to do that kind of thing. I only have 800 miles on it so i dont think ill be doing that quite yet.

Freshmen year at Kent State I had to park out at the football stadium out in BFE. That year we had freakish snow, so I would just floor it out of my parking spot and do a 180 (no other car was around) and just keep driving. I would also pull the E Brake and do a 90 degree turn into my parking spot as well .... the gf didn't like it much tho. Oh, btw, this was w/ the long gone Jetta GLI.

There is a switch next to the 115V O/I switch along with the side curtain airbag switch.

Just lock that center diff, cut the wheel a little, give it some gas, close up the circle and you can get the front tires to pretty much sit there while the rear rotates.

i havent tried in my 4th gen...in my 3rd gen i did almost a 540 in the safeway parking lot. it had just snowed and i took her out of 4wd and went for it.
i did forget my dog was in the back though...poor fella. i think he is getting used to dads crappy driving though

Even with VSC off and in 2WD I can barely get my rear to slide punching the gas with the wheel cranked.

However..... My friends and I once bought a geo metro for $80 (craigslist when youre bored can lead to interesting purchases). That night we painted it up with some silver spraypaint we found in the garage - gave it a nice skull & cross bones on the hood and a number 80 on the doors. The next day it was rainy (first rain of the season) and we drove it to an empty costco parking lot nearby. I should also mention the thing had bald tires. Since the thing didnt have power steering, I had my friend yank the e-brake while I used both hands to crank the wheel. That car spun more than I ever could have imagined. I almost threw up from how much spinning we did. I literally had to wait a couple mins before driving away I was so dizzy, despite my friend yellin at me to drive so we didnt get busted by anyone. The day after that we found a dirt lot with some curb-high "jumps". F**KED it up pretty good. On the way home the clutch just plain burned up so we parked it on the street where it died. A week later we went back for it, and it had been towed. Best $80 spent for a weekend of fun.

There is technique, you have to get momentum going before you start the spin (unless you have the rear locked or an aggressive LSD)

Yeah, it had 3 cylinders of madness. I almost felt unsafe with how little power it had. Added to the fact that the doors are simply 2 pieces of sheet metal.

wait for a rainy day or night find a parking lot preferably with no poles... go about 30-35 jam the emergency brake and spin the wheel. i did like a 270 lol not quiet a 360 but more than a 180.

Just step on it harder...:biggrin2: What you were feeling is the ATRAC providing 'Limited-slip like' performance. It shouldn't have been throttling back. There's no question that a lot of ATRAC action feels like the power is being cut back, there's energy being consumed by the brakes but the engine is not being held back. Just hit the pedal harder...
