Anyone else feel overwhelmed?

I have a bunch of new-to-me maintenance to do, and I have not owned or worked on this vehicle long. I also have a lot of ideas for mods to do but sometimes the small things keep me from moving forward (like switch mounting). I'm eager to get things done! Ok, I'll start with an oil change this weekend :D

Anyone else? What's holding you back?

Me it's always time with the family which is way more important the trucks. I like to get up early on Saturdays and finish my projects around 11ish and then have time with them to go explore. Just make a list and prioritize it.
 
Time is what holds me back. I work 24 hour shifts at the fire station and then have another full time job on my off days. When I'm at home, I'm usually doing something church related or spending time with my wife and dog.

Tough to get all the projects on my list done with so little time to do them.

I hear ya! As the owner of a high mileage 97 Ltd, there's a ton of routine maintence that the PO never did. So I have a few 4Runner "shit-to-do" lists that I'm always going over and adding or subtracting things as I become aware of them or finish them.

Then I have the "mods-I-want-to-do" list as well that always takes a back seat to the aforementioned "shit-to-do" list.

All of which gets pushed aside by the wife's "shit-he-must-do" list that she gives me every week...

I start out with grand plans all the time! For example, today was supposed to be motor oil change, both differential oil changes, transfer case oil change, lube the driveshaft, reconnect the radio antenna with the new "Y" connector and swap out the door ajar sensor thingy in the driver door...day, but I only managed to take the wife shopping and swing by Harbor Freight for a hex head socket set...

Tomorrow is a new day though...
 
I can relate. I work in a bushcamp all week, and only have 2 days a week with my family, house renos and my 4Runner projects. What I try to do.... is include them in my projects.... and then make time for them too. My kids help me wash the truck.... I jump on their trampoline for a while... :D

haha, luckily I let my GF move into my house so she can't really make me do squat. :biggrin2:

I have "things to do" in my head but if I don't make a list I'll forget something or do something easy instead of something hard but important.
 
Not really anymore. Got rid of the list maker, the ex wife, and replaced her with a much more understanding girlfriend. If I do get questioned concerning the amount of time I wrench on the autos, I remind her how much $$$ she saves so she can buy more jewelry and shoes. Then all is good.

I say if one is a visual person make a list and cross things off as you go. Considering the age of our 4runners that task can be daunting.

I'm on my second Honda Accord EX Coupe. (01 in Silver & 09 in Black) I like having no worries on my DD. I barely have enough time to work on the 4Runner.
 
I've felt that way about my life for the last 2 years lol.

I've felt that way about my truck since I bought it (2 years ago).


I see a pattern. LOL. :brushteeth:
 
Removed the Ex-wife years ago. No girlfriend. One of two daughters live with me and she's 16 now. I'm finding my shop again and loving to go out and tinker most of the day. Something I've found is I catch myself looking at a project, and running it through my head like 20 times... In that amount of time, I could've had the project a quarter of the way done already!!

I also have 4 or 5 major projects going at once. I just make my rounds with them. I worked on three today (rock garden, 4Runner, and relocate my washer and dryer). It keeps me busy!

....think I straid off course a bit..... Yes, the truck can get over whelming at times. But then when it's finished and you drive it, you learn that hard work pays off! You feel great that you did something yourself and you and your truck are better for it.
 
I think my job is mostly in the way of me getting anything accomplished. That and the river :surfer: Its taken me damn near two weeks to mount a light bar, and the relays and switches are still rattling around in the cargo area.

Ultimately (for me at least) it is more about the process than the finished product. For me, the process is a learning one; if I wasn't learning, I would be bored already. Even if I had tons of cash to just throw down on an already built truck—I wouldn't.

I feel ya! That's how I am about it. I don't like doing stuff twice because there's nothing to learn from it, just doing it again. P.S. I just noticed you live in Modesto. I'm sorry to hear that. I grew up in Tracy and skipped town the first chance I got!

I've finished all my "have-tos" in about 6 months. Took longer than I wanted because some major repairs on the house took priority. Maintenance is now 100% up to date including a few curve balls like a leaking rear axle seal. My want-to's are too expensive right now so I'm taking a break. I'd much rather be out fishing or camping than sitting in my garage troubleshooting my latest mod.

I was one town over in Manteca, I pretty much left there and never went back too... :barf:

Speaking of leaking rear axles, I'm starting to suspect I may have one. I'll be checking it soon. I'm hoping its just a wheel cylinder though.
 
Time and money. I'm a cheap ass when it comes to my 4runner. My rig is a "lease truck" meaning I keep it at the deer lease at least 4 months out of the year.

I have lots of things I want to do but I want a deal. lol That's probably why I've been piecing together a suspension for well over a year. On a good note, its about all ready to go out and doing LBJs and tie rods in a week or so.

Other than fuel filter, my maintenance is pretty well squared away. Probably due for a engine oil change.

But to the original question....biggest thing holding it back is money and me.
