From what I understand, alot of it has to do with what's already on the boat on the way over from Japan and how long it takes to get through customs. If yours isn't already in transit, it's being built in Japan as part of the normal assembly line process which can take up to 4 months when you include shipment and delivery.

Yes , this is what I do a custom or special order so your are right most times it's right at 4 months. It seems I allways want something weird .

wish I could get special treatment lol , I can't get anything that you can't as far as a special order but for my region the combos are mostly fully loaded and I allways get some oddball combo that's requires a special order . For example my current order is a trail premium with just floor mats. It's just not available without a custom order.

That makes sense. I see many listed across the country that are port optioned to death. Here I can always find a few that only have floor mats as the only option. There is one out there now that has exactly zero options and may be the one I pick up if I can make up my mind in a hurry.

Mine is supposed to be delivered today. I used an auto broker to find one for me. I guess an SR5P 4x4's is impossible to find in the color I wanted with the third row in south Florida. We started looking in early November and decided to take one with a few options we didn't want just to get the color combination we wanted.

I put an order in on 12/14/15 and just got notice from my salesman that it will be built in 6 days and after that they will have a definite ship date for me.

Reading all of this makes me wish I could just forget about my order... I placed my order on 12/17 for my '16 TRDP, got an email 12/23 that my order was in. I was amazed, only to find out the dealer meant that they had confirmed my order with Toyota. Blah. I'm trying to leave my FJ that I'll be trading in parked and clean in the garage, but I don't know if I can hold out that long. The dealer originally said it would probably take 2 months... you guys make it sound longer haha. Here's to waiting.
Can't you just cancel the order?

Yes. But why? All I have a hard time with is NOT driving my current Yota and just leaving it sitting in the garage while I wait for my order to arrive. When I said I wish I could forget about my order, I meant literally forget for a few months that I'd placed my order so I'm not constantly thinking about it.
Getting updates like some have from their dealers would help avoid the temptation to go run some trails in my FJ (aka my trade-in) with other local Toyota owners. So far I've gotten two guesses from them - either 2 months or 4 months. Yay for that. I guess I got lucky with my FJ when I ordered it - it only took 2 weeks. The 4Runner is definitely going to take longer.

I see, I misunderstood your comment, I thought you meant cancel, not 'don't dwell up'. Sorry for my confusion.

No worries, I figured that much out as I was responding... I sometimes forget that what I write doesn't make as much sense without tone as it does when spoken. The "dwelling on" is subsiding for now... now that I'm back to the reality of life and work post-holiday. 2 weeks down, plenty more to come. But that gives me time to flip through the pages here, see what's available out there and build and perfect my list of things I want to add/do once my order arrives.

I'm doing the same thing. I have a list of things I plan on doing to my 4r when I get it. In fact, I already bought the lift kit and I'm keeping my eye on the prices of tires, so if there's a sale, then I'll buy those too.

Yeah, I'll be installing the same Icon setup I have on my FJ currently, but I think I'm going to put a couple thousand miles on the 4Runner before I get around to installing the lift, etc.
Right now I'd be happy just hearing an update... I asked my dealer to keep me posted when they find out anything - build date if possible, VIN once built, etc. A couple days later the dealer responded with attitude and nothing since haha. Patience isn't a virtue I ever mastered, so this experience is really a test for me.

I got lucky. My dealer somehow got the very same 4runner I ordered on the lot and mine hadn't even been built yet, so I bought the one on the lot. Today marks week #2 that I've had the truck and I've already got the lift/wheels/tires installed. Haven't even made a payment yet. lol
I'm now on my 3rd internet sales guy with the dealership I'm working with. The other two have been promoted in the time it's taken for my 4Runner to get built and delivered. With 3 weeks left on the clock, I wonder if I'll have at least one more guy manage my account before it hits the lot. Continuity is definitely not their strong suit.
