Anyone else special order a 4Runner?

Yeah.. I own my house AND the lot next door to my house (hence the 13' Berlin Wall of a fence) plus 126 acres northwest of where I live. All that for less than $400k makes people in California sad pandas.

Special Ordered TEP with KDSS today

I wanted a TEP with KDSS, because when you are a senior, you do not want to bounce around anymore than you have too. I really hesitated to place an order because the dealer said the last time they ordered a 4runner with KDSS, it took SEVEN MONTHS! (I am in San Antonio.)

He checked further because he could not find any TEP/KDSS combos anywhere, and neither could I. He finally said the TEP with KDSS is always a special order and that if I found in on a lot online, it probably was not available. Dealer inventory shows all the special order cars, but they are not available unless the buyer backs out.

If I back out, I forfeit $500. My price today is $1500 below invoice price. That is the Costco price. (The invoice price is before any upgrades, taxes etc.) However, before the car arrives, the car could end up being a 2017 model and the price would change or Costco might change their price, or the incentive price might change. Today the incentive was $435 off. So, the price will not be set until the car arrives.

I have a trip to Big Bend planned for October. I hope it does not take seven months to get the car I wanted to drive in Big Bend! :hungry:

Hmmm, I ordered a trail premium with kdss at the beginning of March and took delivery March 22nd. Something doesn't sound right here. I know allotments are different by region but still.

I was more impressed with the size of those houses. Then I remembered you're in Texas and you get tons of house for the money. Makes me a bit jealous.

You can have my tax bill if you want? Its about 3% of the appraised value and they are constantly claiming that we cant make it unless more is paid.

Follow-up Special Order

I ordered the car in April. It was built May 20. I am told it will be here in late August or early September.

I almost did. I wanted an SR5, with pretty normal stuff, but wanted it in blue. We couldn't find it. I was told to order it would take 2-3 months and we have a couple big family trips to go on, plus I have to build it out. So I settled with red. That was after going to a second dealer. Had some issues at the first dealer

It sucks that one thing forced your hand on another. I would have rented a larger vehicle for the family outing and placed the order for exactly what you wanted. Now you'll be stuck with a red vehicle for the next 10-15 years. =(

Update

3 months later with 2300 miles on it. All dressed up for a muddy weekend.

If you go with a BR basket, might want to wait until they've stocked up on replacement feet. I'm on the recall list and won't put any serious weight in the basket for fear of roof damage.

I went to the dealer on February 4 to either order or buy a 4Runner, depending on whether they had what I wanted in stock. Was told they do not do "special orders", and neither of my preferred color choices (blue or red) were in stock. They also could locate on in those colors at any other dealer in the county, and there were none expected to come in for the next 90 days.

I ended up buying one in silver. It's not a big deal, I like the silver, but after reading the comments here it seems the dealer lied to me.

Yea, you got screwed. You helped them clean up their lot.
