Anyone familiar with Johnson window tint?

Well, last week I decided to get 15% Llumar tint. But, I recently noticed that the rear looked quite a bit lighter than my front 2 windows. So, today I went and had a couple different tint shops use the tint % meter to see what the back windows really are from the factory. To my surprise, both meters registered 28%. So, I had them remove the 15% on the front and put 35% which (after installation) read 31%. So, now I have 31% up front and factory 28% in the back. Pretty close. However, the place where I got it tinted at today used Johnson tint instead of Llumar tint (where I got the 15%) done. Is the Johnson brand as good as Llumar? I guess I should have researched more before letting them install it today, but I was frustrated at the other tint place for not using the tint % meter the first time to match the windows up. If the Johnson tint is poor quality, then I will get the Llumar 35% put on, but the Johnson looks ok so far. Any thoughts?

I have Llumar (20%) on my 4Runner and I think it matches just about perfectly. From my experience with many other cars (all tinted) Llumar is the best tint available. I never heard of the Johnson brand, but it might be quality tint. Did they offer a warranty?

Well, they told me it was 20%, but I found out it was actually 13% according to the meter. So, I had them do a meter test today and found the rear to be 28%. I added the 35% Johnson tint today and it read 31%. So, its pretty close. Another reputable tint place told me today that they would order Llumar 30% if I wanted it. I am kinda thinkin that I may go that route even though I got the 35% today. I know Llumar is a great brand and the 30% will probably be right at 28-27% which would match the rear perfectly. Decisions...decisions

I assume you mean getting my windows meter tested for tint %? If so, its a free service from any reputable tint shop. They simply take the meter and apply it to your windows. My 06' tested twice today and read 28% at two seperate tint locations.

that's dependent upon film type, darkness, legality in your state, and region. tint prices do vary, and may vary a lot dependent on those factors. i'd suggest you call around and get the average price of how much it would cost dependent upon the film.

as for brand of film, and what darkness it meters at, the box may have very well been 20%.. it is kindof a low reading for it though.. the glass isn't 100% clear, as shown by the readings, and the film wouldn't exactly be at 20% either, it also has a range. one company's 20% may be at say 17%, and anothers may be at 23%.

if the film you got has a lifetime warranty, then i wouldn't worry about it too much. keep the receipt, send the warranty card in, if it ever does fade, bubble, etc. and the warranty covers it, then use the warranty.

oh, if the film doesn't have a lifetime warranty, then its not a hybrid or metallized film, or a ceramic based film. it would be a dyed film, completely dyed, don't get it confused with extruded dyed, which is a hybrid film. dyed films will fade in due time, its what you get for spending less money though, as it is typically cheaper.

If I choose Llumar (20%), it shall match my rear windows, and as I read, it is in good quality.

I got PerformX 35% on front windows and it looks match from outside, but darker from inside. The second thing you can't match colors 100%, for example, my tint is a little graphite in color if look too closes.

quite a few reputable audio shops are switching to johnson films... so im guessing its good? They also offer lifetime warranty, the last I heard.
