Anyone had their stock CD player stop playing CDs?

Debated on if this should go in the audio/electronic accessories forum, but since this is dealing with a stock item (therefore not exactly an accessory) and is more 3rd gen specific, thus here it is. If it's moved, it won't hurt my feelings.


The stock CD player in my 02 Sport Edition has stopped playing CDs.

The radio function still works, and if I had any tapes, I would test that too... but I imagine it works as well.

The CD player will take in a CD, and it will spin it up, but it fails to read the CD. Usually, when you put in a CD, the timecode starts at 0:00 immediately. If there are any erros with the disc, usually it will show Err on the display. Neither of these are displayed, and the screen stays blank until the CD player automatically ejects the CD.

Anyone had this experience before? Any suggestions?

You could try one of those CD Player cleaner disks and see if that helps. But if not, it's a CD player and they don't last forever. Though, from a 2002 that seems like a pretty short life. If it is broke beyond repair there are plenty of people out there who buy after market stereos and you should be able to find a stock replacement for cheap, or just go after market.

I agree with Griffeycom. You should be able to find an OEM deck from a member here for cheap. I have an OEM from a 98, but I don't think they're the same for an 02.

If my deck goes out on my 02, I'll probably get another OEM, too. I like the clean look of the OEM. The only other option for me would be a Panasonic D3.

yeah I had the same issue with my 99, I got to pissed off at it and pulled it out and Dropped in an Alpine, with cd and Ipod hook up its great and way better than stock
