Ive been thinkin of installing a CB, anyone else have one?, in a 2nd gen t4r? Ive been trying to figure out were to mount one,somewhere its convient to use too, i also have a sunroof, so headliner mounting is sorta ruled out, any ideas, pics?
Was also wondering how to go about wiring it up...off the battery or someother way? does CB sound come through truck speakers or through the Cb itself,,,sorry for all the questions,,never had a Cb before.

I recently put one in my 5th gen.

The install procedure should still apply. I'd recommend the cobra 75 if you want a stealth install.

The CB sound usually comes through a speaker in the unit, in the case of the 75 it is in the handset. You can also get an external speaker for most radios.

Also remember that antenna quality and placement, and then tuning, are the most important aspects of the install.
 
How exactly did you run the coax for the antenna in the hatch? What little I can see from the pics, looks like you just shut the hatch on the coax. If so, any problems with leaking? Good looking install, nice and clean.

Need more details please

Where is the power supply coming from for yours, is it from the battery then to the fuse block, is that a fuse with a wire coming out of it? Honestly i need a write up on this, I work at a Freightliner dealership, so i can order any Cb at a 10% markup, I would like to see what the Cobra 75 looks like etc too, I was looking at the Ltd NW29 Classic Chrome,cause we stock it, though its kinda big. are there different qualities as far as frequency and quality of sound, channels available within different model Cbs?
And I was thinking about mounting the antenna on the back bumper, any one have success with this mounting? I could mount it on the fiberglass visor I have thought it might get hit by stuff to easily though, and it maay look corny there.

Not sure where to tap in the power on your gen, but that fuse with a wire is a fuse tap. There is a good discussion about them on this thread: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/69480-adding-additional-accessory-power-connections.html

I did just run it in the rear hatch. I gently zip tied the wire to an existing wire loom/tube thing to keep it in place. Over the weather strip and into the headliner. Then down the side and across the bottom of the door sills, to the driver seat, then across to the center. I had just enough cable with an 18 footer.

It's been on some heavy rain and it doesn't look like it leaks at all.
 
so if I have or can find an unused fuse in my fuse panel and get a pigtail style fuse, or fuse tap, I can draw power directly from the fuse panel? Is your antenna the only ground on that circuit? I like that CB, all functions available on the handset seems pretty "handy":hatsoff: And because Id only be running the CB off of it I wouldnt need to do the splicing etc...?
 
You can run the fuse tap off of any fuse in the block and power the CB off of that, as long as it is ON when you want it. Mine is currently wired to a circuit that is ON when the key is in ON, not in ACC. I need to re-wire it because that gets annoying fast. When we stopped for a break I wanted to leave the radio on but ON on the key leaves the fan etc on. Finding one that works off of the ACC is probably the best.

Another option would be one that is always hot. Downside is you have to remember to turn off the CB from the handset. Plus side is the Cobra 75 has shit for memory and if it doesn't have power over night it forgets what channel you were on and loses any channels you put in memory. It seems to hold the settings for a while, but definitely not over night.
 
Can you power that model off only using the handset,so basically if you power off the CB it will hold memory, but if the circuit power is off, like on yours or running off of an ACC position it will lose all settings, channels etc? how are you liking that model though, easy to use, good clarity,
low distortion?
 
You are correct about the power. You can just turn the switch off on the handset and it is not supposed to loose it's memory settings.

I like it. Others have complained about the speaker, I found it fine for my use. It was loud enough if the person transmitting had decent power. It's super easy to use, didn't even read the manual ;)

Best part is I took the handset out and you can't even tell I have it installed. Next trip, just screw it in and I'm good to go.
 
Sweet, i looked at the similar midland model, but decided after reading the reviews to get the 75wxst, its on order now, then the only things to get would be an antenna, antenna mount and coax cable...correct? and the antenna grounds the whole setup?
 
The antenna is grounded through the mount. Make sure you verify all connections with a volt meter before turning the radio on.

FYI, since I mounted my antenna on my rack I needed a 'jumper' to ground the antenna mount to the truck ground. That bolt is connected to the batter with < 3ohms. Just check where you plan to mount yours before you commit ;)

I have this one in my FJ. I hate CB's and never thought I would have another one. Had one back in the late 70's. They are not family friendly on the highway. It is amazing, the vocabulary of these truck drivers, if it was an indication of their intelligence level they couldn't get their trucks in park! :roadkill:

I purchased mine for the FJ Summit and only use it on the trails! :bluejump:
 
Conclusion

well, i got my 75wsxt and it took me a way to long 5 hours to install due to lots of headaches along the way, very concealed though now, on Tuesday just gotta get the antenna tuned by the place I purchased it at for free and Im good to go, thanks for tip on the Cobra 75WSXT:thumb3:

What mount is this? I'm looking the do the same with a Gobi Rack.
