anyone have experiance with range rovers?

was wondering about info on range rovers. if anyone has ever owned one and what they thought of it and was it a reliable truck? also land rover LR3 as well. my mom likes them but she doesnt know much about them and i know that teh infamous discovery made by land rover is always broken from what i have heard

Range Rovers are good, if i were you i would stick with the Range Rover Classic, pre 95, they are very reliable, they are very good off road, and are nice on road too, If you can find them get them with the manual transmission, as it is bulletproof and if you ever wanted to put a 300Tdi in it it would bolt right up to it. The disco's are also reliable car, they have some issues, but no different than a 4runner would, they are also good offroad, these you can pick up cheap, the Disco 2's i would stay away from when they are over 100k miles as Land Rover is better known for its diesel engines and not their petrol ones. But the Disco 1's are basically awesome, they are cool, reliable and somewhat luxurios and great offroad.I do have to say that you should get the f*ck away from a freelander, if you are considering it at all, just don't, they are piles of shit. I am a Land Rover Nut, so i have a ton of info on this. But of all the Land Rovers to get, i would reccomend a Land Rover Defender 90, they are the "Land Rover" and they don't have locking axles because they don't need them, they are a simple vehicle, but unless you are looking to spend atleast $17k, you may want to look elsewhere.

According to JD&Power only the Hummer has more problems reported problems per 100 cars so for the money they aren't that well built.

awesome information thanks! well she needs 4wd for the mountains and would like something kinda luxurious. she drives a lexus es330 now so she is used to all the nice heated leather seats. but she really likes the range rovers so im gonna tell her what i learned from u and yea she will be spending at most 20k. but thanks for your help and ill let u know if i have any other questions

my friends mom has a LR3 V-8 and I road in it shotgun and I gotta say the cabin is very narrow and cramped. when I drove it wasn't fast however it wasn't made to be fast it was made to off road and it was pretty cool however it beeps a lot more than my truck does.

Range Rover Sport + 99 discovery

My dad had a 99 discovery and he loved it. I wish he never got rid of it because i was hoping to get it for my first car but instead i got the 4runner, so i guess it turned out well. but anyways it was a good car. My mom then bought the range rover sport and she loved it. We lived in jackson hole wyoming and it handled the roads and snow perfectly. It also was very fast and fun to drive. Hope this helps.

I told you the POS model they made, sure there will be haters, but i have owned atleast 5 land rovers to this point, and only 1 of them was a piece of shit (freelander), the 04 disco 2 i have is great, no leaks, no nothing wrong with it, it runs great but i wish it was a manual, the original tires were a bit shitty but thats not Land Rover. I didnt realize you meant a vehicle for your mom. If that is the case have her get a Range Rover Sport, they are so sweet, although i haven't owned them, i have 2 friends that have them and they are quick comfy and reliable. I have heard mixed reviews on the Disco 3 but the bad ones i here are of the earliest model's, and like most cars it takes a year or too for the initial problems with the new body style to be solved. The only thing i have against Land Rover is they are so expenisive to begin with and then they depriciate faster than a stone dropped of a cliff, the only models that retain there value are the Range Rover Sport and the Defender.And as they say the land rover is the recovery vehicle for the recovery vehicles.

Listen to Ron. Regardless of what people on this forum say, statistically they are some of the worst vehicles on the road. They break down all the time and have expensive repairs. There are always going to be a couple of people that have Rover's with no problems and will defend them until their death, but listen to the masses. They're unreliable and a money pit. Read Consumer Reports and other magazines, they're consistently in the lower quarter of SUV's in terms of maintenance.I have some in my neighborhood and most have been traded in for an MDX or GX or something along those lines for that reason.

oh okay... i didnt understand what ron meant at the tiime..... thats pretty terrible. the only other thing she really liked is the old lexus rx 300 cause you can get them in 4 wheel drive. she really liked the land rover range rovers cause their looks but also likes the rx. actually when she bought her es330 she was looking at an rx330. (this was when she didnt know she would need a 4wd suv.) now that she needs one im trying to find something reliable and luxurious and comfortable for her. and im pretty sure i dont need to ask if the Lexus RX 300 is reliable but i would like to hear from some ppl that have owned them and get their take on what they think of them. thanks for all the help btw!!!!

Do what you want, i have had more issues with my 4runner than the Land Rovers. Land Rover is reliable, i may not like there new styling and there choices of only petrol engines and automatic gearbox's but they will go anywhere in most any condition.

They are quite expensive too repair, but what car isnt? and some of the older ones the V8's were Buick so parts are cheaper. I did say the bad and what i didnt like about land rover, i know i am bias here, but you have to pick through both sides of this arguement to see what you feel the conclusion about Land Rover is. I have seen almost all the Top Gear episodes i was so glad i found that website last year or else i dunno what i would have done just watching BBCA.

I've seen that episode twice and its by far my favorite episode. I didnt look at the title, i thought it was an early episode from 03 when they were talking about how bad the disco is.

This is from someone who has experience off-road or someone who has experience with locker(s), right?? Defender axles are too weak for a locker. This is why one of the most popular off-road mod for a Defender are AXLE UPGRADE and LOCKERS.

You owned? or your parents?? From what i read from you in the past, you didn't even take your parent's D90 off-road! So, how do you know?
