Anyone have Falken Wildpeak balancing issues?

I bought brand new wheels and Wildpeaks on all four corners (265-70-17s) and after two balancing attempts by Discount Tire, I'm still getting a 55+ mph steering wheel shimmy.

At this point I'm not sure if I should find different stores to keep rebalancing, get new Wildpeaks or get new different brand tires.

Unfortunately, I don't have much to add other than I was planning on going with the Wildpeaks in the near future. I'll be watching this thread closely.

About 3 yrs ago i was going to have the Falken AT3 put on, and the shop i use said they have trouble with balancing them, so i went with the Falken MT’s and have no problems.

for what its worth: one of my FJ rims and 255/75 they claimed was almost impossible to balance. they did their best type of thing. the truck couldnt drive any better. no wobble, shake or anything. over a year later too

I ran them in 285/70/17 under my 2016 4Runner, currently have them in 265/60/18 under my 2019 Highlander, and my dad has them in 265/70/17 under his 2019 4Runner. Zero issues with any of them. Hands down my favorite AT tires, especially for the price.

I got brand new Level 8 MK6s from Discount Tire along with the tires.

Mine have been challenging to balance - My impressions is that though that the bigger and more aggressive the tire, the more difficult it is to balance and more variability in the balancing process. so im not sure is wildpeak specific as it is to all terrain vs all season/ all weather/ high way tires

Mine are 275/70/17. When I got mine in March on my 17x8 MK6’s they balanced perfect. A couple weeks later I threw a weight and shimmy was noticeable. I went back and they put on stick ons instead of clamp ons Like I asked.

Again they balanced perfect and drove nice with no wobble or shimmy. A couple weeks later I get a small shimmy at times, usually when I haven’t drove it for a day or two for the first half hour or so but don’t necessarily feel it’s really a balancing issue. I haven’t checked my tire pressure in a bit and my cv’s are leaking so possibly it’s coming from elsewhere besides being a tire balancing issue.

YUP! I have personally balanced mine 4 times. Infonally got it pretty close. Very disappointed with these tires. Considering pursuing a warranty issue.

I had an issue for about the first 15k. It has settled out now but I am really not a fan of these tires. Definitely going back to Toyos.

Its the method. the installer has to use a hub eccentric hub flange that centers the wheel by using the hub holes and not the center hole. I spent $100 and two attempts listening to the wankers at tire warehouse tell me they counted get um balanced and try to blame the falkens.

Use this: https://www.hunter.com/find-equipment/ to find someone who has this balancer and when you call ask them of they have the flange(s). If they don't move on until you find someone who does. The shop i found who did a perfect balance specialized custom wheel-tire set ups.

I think these tires just suck. I went back again and had them road force balanced. They even took the tires off to get them perfectly weighted.

It's better and now an acceptable ride but still shimmy at 55-60.

Additionally look at this. This is not how brand new wheels and tires should look like.

Looks like some pretty sloppy work right there. At least your wheels and tires looks great!

Been reading a lot on how they have to use the correct adapter and hub vs lug centric and all that, including post in this thread. One of the guy’s had issues as well. Lifted vehicle off ground to where there was barely light between tires and ground. Loosened lug nuts, repositioned wheels, and retightened in star pattern with torque wrench. Snugged then went 80 ft lbs, then 90. Said it rode perfect after that.

I know it’s not something you should have to do with new wheels and tires but it’s worth a shot. Sounds like issues across the board with all different tires. Good luck, hope you get it all figured out.

I’ve had mine (265/70/17, 115T SL) on for about 6K miles and love them. I just replaced my spare to match my other rims today and it mounted just fine with no issues

Went off roading in them and only aired down to 25 psi on a moderate trail and never once did I lose traction. My original set was made in Thailand and the spare I got today was made in USA. Not sure if that matters. Definitely would recommend the Wildpeaks.

Maybe the discount tire you went to didn’t do a good job installing them?

If you offroad and you "never once lost traction" you dont offroad right lol or we have a different idea of the moderate trail
