Anyone have problems with an aftermarket alarm on their 3rd gen?

So here is my problem. I purchased an aftermarket Autopage Alarm. (see here RF-320 - Alarms - AutoPage) It works fine, shock sensor, keyless entry, blah blah. But about every hour or so, the warning alarm goes off for no reason. There is no one near the car. No cars driving by. Loud noises. Nothing.
I took the truck back to the shop that installed it. They replaced the unit in hopes of a faulty unit, but the problem still consists. They said it might be something with the trucks built in security system checking if the doors were locked or something of that matter and its causing the alarm to trip.
Its only the warning that is going off (a single honk and flashing lights) that is going off.
Has anyone had any problems like this, idea whats going on, or how to fix it?
Any help is greatly appreciated..

i installed a clifford car alarm my self pretty easy as ill i wanted was it to unlock and lock and a shock sensor ive had no problems with it going off

yeah is there like a sensor adjustment setting? maybe see if they can tweak that a bit, but from your explanation sounds like it maybe a relay or something to that effect if it's going off on a cycle every 30 minutes or so. to be honest i have no clue, just don't want you to feel ignored on here. lol but the every 30 minutes thing is weird, has to be a relay or defective unit (but twice in a row? maybe the installed it wrong? did they take the factory alarm out? if not that could cause this problem)


what i think is happening is that the brain or ecu for the alarm is sending a check signal every 30 minutes but is not getting a reply back from the proper relay (not installed, defective, wired wrong) another way of thinking of this is that it's not completing the circuit some where and fires off the alarm,
this is all MASSIVE speculation but may give you some ideas on where to start looking..get an install manual somewhere and make sure all of the components are there and they are wired correctly, also check to make sure they took out the stock unit and not just wired the new one in to the stock harness. .i.e. not a hack install.

When I bought the truck it did not have one.

I think it might have something to do with the shock sensor. Went through the online manual and found its possible to arm the system without the shock sensor. Haven't heard it go off yet. I'll find out tonight for certain if this is the problem.
If it is, is it possible to just disconnect the shock sensor wire from the unit?

well yeah that would work but then your paying for a feature your not using, that's not right, i know some alarms have an adjustable shock sensor and usually leave the factory all the way turned up, see if you can just dial it down not to be so senstive that a stray gust of wind will set it off. lol

Back when it was new, I had a 93 probe gt with a viper alarm on it. I had changed out cell phones from a bag phone to a wireless (remember, back in 94/95....) and come to find out, if I left my new cell phone in the car, it would somehow trigger the alarm....if I took the cell out, it'd be fine....just throwing that out there....

Good thought. Looked in the manual. Its says to change the sensitivity you have to push the 'valet button.' I'm not sure I have one installed. ARGGG

I might just have to take it back again and see what they can do. But as it seems, I'm not sure they know too much on what they're doing :ybrick:

i would think the valet button would either be on your key fob or on the unit it's self, the manual should tell you where that is located (usually on the unit it's self under the drivers side dash)

it's called a valet button for when valets are parking your car and set off the alarm, it's a little button they can push to switch it off, or at least years ago that was the original intention, back to the manual, lol

don't mind me man i'm :fishing: here, truly i have no real experience with car alrams, i've only pulled one out in my existence here on planet earth, lol
just trying to help with the little info i know, haha.

I have a 1996 4 runner, while changing out the battery i set off the alarm and now the truck won't start. the engine will turn over but the fuel pump isn't pumping fuel. I have replace the fuel pump and strainer before i replaced the battery and it was working fine. Will my alarm allow the engine to turn over but the fuel pump not to work?
