Well, I am mistaken... w7's also come in 12's... 13's are the largest they come in. I totall forgot about that. oops...
It's been two years since I've Played with JL.
The New sony Explod amps have excellent crossover features. I have both of my 1200 watt amps turned up to the max.
One has the Low Pass filter on cleaning up everything for my sub, and allows enough so some techno beats go through cleanly.
My component 6x9's need 250Watts Rms each speaker constantly. so I have no cross over on.
Keep in mind that it depends what you are looking to power usually, and what kind of music you listen to. The worse the cross over is, the bigger the driver you have, the sloppier it sounds, mixed with a poorly made box. YOu just got.... Ghettorific bass slop....
My opinion on amps?
The hifonics amp is very good too.
The ones that wow me the most have to be JL audio's monoblock or Alpine's V Drive series.
I am a cheap guy, so the sony's do perfectly fine right now.
Some people pick certain brand names over others.
There are a couple companies that I would usually tend to steer clear from... just from my experience.
Jensen ~ Amps, don't have great crossovers... so it sounds a little messy when used on subs.... Decent for powering speakers.
Used an amp from my work, ICK! Disgusting...
Boss ~ Use the HIGH END boss, I had a riot and I had two IDQ Amps from them, one 800 watt and two 2165Watt amps....
The 800 watt finally lost one channel in a two channel amp... worked great for high end sound, ok for bass
The 2165 watt amps.. were powering the 15's.... I burnt both of the amps.... running at half the load.... real junk... The high end stuff that they have is decent.
Pyle ~ I try to steer you away from this, A) Quality is poor, Had an amp fall apart... like the casing wasn't even screwed together properly... very poor....( Only used two pyle things... One indash screen with player... NOT motorized.... and The screen had issues with the sliding mechanism.... was garbage... and the amp... that fell apart)
Crunch ~ I've seen two of the V powers come into my shop, Really nice looking, Huge, looks great... RCA connections came out, and the amp it self was fried both of them...... I personally had no experience with them... so use your own precaution..
Dual ~ Amps are clean for speakers, good high pass filter.... Do NOT BUY THE DUAL SUB BOX WITH THE DUALS IN IT.... The excursion is not as good and crisp clean... however if your broke... and you want some subs, with a sub box... the whole box with the two subs are like 130-150. Cheap resolution. Dual Amps.... Do not power subs well
Rockford fosgate ~ Good cross overs, Powers things Excellently, one problem..... Overheating.... (I sell alot of these... but that's what I see come back quite often)
Audiobahn... ~ Had three of their amps.... One low end, one high end. and one 4 channel...., Low end was resold.... I didn't have a problem with it.... My high end and 4 channel.. Both have issues with it... Since audiobahn is sickly expensive.... I kept both and waiting to get them repaired. My high end ... the issue I think is the Analog needle on the front, and the LED. When the amp is turned on, everything is ok, until the LED and needle jump, then it goes into protection mode. I think that shorted it out.
MTX ~ Thunderbirds are awesome!!!!!! I don't have much experience with these... cause I never worked for circuit... so I Guess use your own precaution
Those are just a couple of amps I encountered
If you want to know more... ask me... Thought I'd just post this from my experience from working as a install technician for a couple years.
