anyone having touch screen problems?

already posted this over in the problems section, but no response yet so I thought I'd give it a shot here.
First off, brand new to the forum and to 4runners in general. Just sold my 93 fzj80 and picked up a 2011 trail edition. Really love the truck but there's one problem.

last week my wife took it up to utah for a wedding. i flew up friday and we drove back sunday. at some point of her having the car for a week the touch screen became completely unresponsive. all the buttons on the side of the unit and on the steering wheel work, but the screen itself has no reaction when you touch it. she doesnt know when it happened because unlike me she doesnt really pay attention to the car haha.

so do you think she somehow locked the screen or do you think she broke it? i tried disconnecting the battery for 5 mins and then hooking it back up. nav system rebooted but still no touch screen. any ideas on how to fix it or what to do?
Thanks a ton!
looking forward to becoming addicted to this forum now that i don't belong on ih8mud anymore haha.

haha thanks for the help stifler. I'll see if that works. BUT, in my defense, I called it a truck at first, I only referred to it as a car when my wife was driving it. Must be a sub-conscious thing. Also, just because I know everyone likes pictures, here ya go.

The 80 is haunting you for selling it.

I don't know what the fix is. I have had a similar problem but usually restarting the truck made it go away, it never stayed dead like yours.

I also run with the touchscreen in the disabled (off) position because it bugs me at night and it only comes on when the rear camera does, but if you touched any of the shoulder buttons, it should have turned it back on.

Hi Spencertron,

Being that the truck is a 2011 model, you may still be using the old version of software that drives entune, in which case you'll need to get the 'update'. The old ver: 1.7.4. was replaced by it's successor: ver 3.2. The 'touch Screen' may have locked-up because the old ver is now unsupported (internet software). Go to your dealership, tell them what happened and ask them to upload the latest ver of entune which is ver 3.2; that should do it, takes about 20 min. best of luck! BTW: Nice truck!

rigtec, cheers

hey thanks rigtec! i found the version 3.2 on this forum and someone mention to make sure they don't do it if they have jbl. did the 2011 trail come with entune or JBL? Mine says JBL on the screen but that might just be for the speakers. Does it run Entune software even if it's a JBL screen?
thanks

this is it

from the web, but this is the same dash I have. Should I do the entune update if that's what my touch screen looks like?

shoot. ok thanks. Does anyone know if the jbl has a new software I can update to see if that fixes the problem?

I cannot tell you 'definitively' that there is an update for JBL per se, but as you know, most all software is prone to failure to due to it's ability to perform at an acceptable level. It's also prone to the pressures of obsolescence e.g., it's features, graphics, speed...etc. Even it's compatibility with a constantly changing 'GPS' format, so I'm speculating that there is a newer version (since 2011) out there; Toyota will know for sure!

I also have 2011 with the Nav system you pictured. I just want to confirm that you are correct, IT IS NOT the Entune version, as you have discovered.

Toyota sells a map disk update, that does update a few minor portions of the software, but really nothing that isn't related to the maps. I have never seen or heard of a software only update.

If a battery disconnect did solve it, I think the screen is probably broken..........

Maybe I am blind... but I cannot find a version anywhere in the menu other than the maps version, which is 10.1 (on my truck/SUV/whatever).

I guess you're due for a trip to the dealer.

Just curious as to what makes up a "truck" as opposed to a "SUV"?

I would also like the definition of a "rig" as people seem to use all of these interchangeably.

I have a 2011 LE with NAV and have had a few issues where the screen reacts slow or does not respond for a few. I have found that using some LCD screen cleaner to keep the finger oil down helps.

I believe there is no way to update the software in the older units unlike the new Entune ones. There is only the update of the maps by changing out hte disc.

I would say if you pulled the battery and the screen still did not come back I would say take it to the dealer and see if it is a warrenty thing. If not I would start looking into and after market.

Try cleaning the screen with the correct cleaning solution and material. Do NOT use paper towels or something that will scratch.

If the screen still does not respond, ask her, nicely to explain when it stopped working and what operation was being done. Speak in a non-blame voice and choose your words carefully so as not to offend.
