I didnt. But i know people who did. I live in the Bay Area. I think its insane that there was a Black Friday atmosphere to put $1k down for a car that wont be avaible for likely a couple years.

If I had $1500 for a reservation spot I would have done it. I'm really excited about it and will probably get one once they're moving along with production.

I'm waiting for the IFS Jeep Wrangler!

I'm really depressed by Tesla. They had the opportunity to make the next VW Beatle, an electrically powered inexpensive utilitarian vehicle that could have dominated the roads within ten years and made a huge difference in our reliance on fossil fuels. Instead they went the consumerism route, and I don't think it's helping at all. Elon Musk can DIAF.

Wut??

Isn't that what they are doing? It's just that batteries are expensive, so if you don't want to drive something like a Nissan leaf you need more batteries which brings the cost up. All things considered $35k isn't all that expensive these days.

Zero interest in the car, but I killed on the stock. :tea:

"Update April 2 3:10PM ET: In a tweet this afternoon, Musk said preorders had reached 253,000 as of this morning...."
(That's $253MM folks, which equates to $7.5BB worth of presold vehicles -- IF they all wait 2 years)

(Wiki): Elon Reeve Musk (/ˈiːlɒn ˈmʌsk/; born June 28, 1971) is a South African-born Canadian-American business magnate, engineer, inventor and investor. He is the founder, CEO and CTO of SpaceX; co-founder, CEO and product architect of Tesla Motors; chairman of SolarCity, co-chairman of OpenAI; co-founder of Zip2; and co-founder of PayPal. As of March 2016, he has an estimated net worth of US$13.5 billion, making him the 75th wealthiest person in the US.

Musk has stated that the goals of SolarCity, Tesla Motors, and SpaceX revolve around his vision to change the world and humanity.[20] His goals include reducing global warming through sustainable energy production and consumption, and reducing the "risk of human extinction" by "making life multiplanetary" by setting up a human colony on Mars.

He has envisioned a high-speed transportation system known as the Hyperloop, and has proposed a VTOL supersonic jet aircraft with electric fan propulsion, known as the Musk electric jet.

If he can get the Model 3 out the door in volume, maybe the Model 4 can be the Beetle. Even the Leaf or the Bolt aren't "inexpensive." But his Gigafactory has to be cranking out batteries before any of that happens. I doubt that you'll be able to walk into one of their stores and just buy one that is sitting around before 2019. I hope Tesla succeeds. BTW, I didn't order one, but my friend did. The next day, forgetting it was April 1st, I saw this and almost wet myself thinking it was real for about 30 seconds...what a moron....

Why? There are a whole bunch of "electric" Beatles around, like Chevy Volt and Prius Plug-in. I have not read much on Model 3, but it is basically a smaller/cheaper version of their P85 SPORT SEDAN...like a BMW 3-series competitor.

screw the Model 3 is my view.

while I understand the under 40k market that wants a tesla....

Go P85D or go HOME!

... but how can you spend $80 something G's on a vehicle!? so I do kinda understand the intention. but still.

276k pre-orders... gotta give credit to Elon.
