Anyone in the Bay Area w/URD 7th experience in programming?

Anyone in the Bay Area or Northern California with experience in tuning URD’s 7th injector with the R4 software, that can help me out? I’m new to this, and I took my rig to a place in San Jose that Split Second recommended, they were not that well versed in the system or software and it was a waste of time. In the end after solving communication errors between their computer and the FTC they said they couldn’t tune it because the FTC was only seeing 1 pound of boost. They fiddled with the existing map but it actually runs worse than it did before. When I got home I opened the glove box (that’s where the ftc is mounted) and found that in the course of the tuning shop swapping cords and moving everything around they pinched the line that comes from the boost port to the box. :redbrick: I don’t want to take another day off of work to drive down to San Jose and have them look at it again.

Thanks Josh

I called gadgett and he said as long as you have the newest piggy edu, you dont need to tune it whatsoever. He said the old u-tune was for the programs he was using but now it is so efficient, nothing is needed. Mine still came with the R4 software as well but according to him, it's not needed. I havn't hooked a wideband to my car to confirm how "accurate" it is though. Have you hooked a wideband up?

There is still some tuning involved if you want to get the most out of the supecharger, especially if you are running a smaller pulley.

The open loop maps are what they are until you modify them. If you put the URD AIC/FTC on there, it has the ability to adjust to changing conditions in closed loop, and it is preloaded with a BASE table of values for open loop. That base table will probably be close to ideal, but it will not be perfect. Every truck runs a little different from the next and, at a minimum, you will want to fine tune those open loop tables for peak performance. You can also build some additional cushion into the setup as far as timing via the closed loop side of things.

That being said, I understand it but I haven't done it. I've had the URD kit sitting in my garage since last September... staring at me... whispering intall me, installllll me. :wow:

I don't know if you've checked out the online verions of the tuning manuals, but it would be worth your time to read through them.

Read this one first. This is NOT the system that you have, but it gives you some background knowledge on what you are trying to accomplish.

Then go to this...This is the meat and potatoes. If you take your time with understanding this one you should have a good handle on things.

Keep me in mind man, and 4-Ripcord too. We've both got URD kits awaiting install. If you get a jump on it, we may be coming to you for help.

What is "piggy edu"? The previous owner installed and tuned the URD 7th injector kit, but I was trying to get rid of the "high gear, low rpm ping"
thanks Josh

I had to pull my module and send it back to gadget after a shop tried to tune it on a dyno, the "nameless" performance shop had no experience with the urd system and I never did get my wideband installed either.

Gadget put back a base start up map and it runs the 2.2 pulley quite well, not sure if you want to wait out the turn around time which was about 2-3 weeks for me. So i am currently running the base map from 2 years ago and not sure if it's the most current.

I do get a fluttering in the valves during high speed roll ons, so I know that I need some tuning. But on the flip side if I take the lead out of my foot I never hear that fluttering.

Thanks Big Fish. Actually had the first u-tune manual, but not the second.

I'm having un-zipping issues with the R4 cop of software on my netbook. I'll read the second manual when I get home tonight.

I've added so much weight to my 4runner I need all the available power I can pull even with my 4.88 gears
thanks again

Your "nameless shop" wasn't in San Jose was it?

Contact Turbo Hoses in Livermore. They do great work on everything from kits to custom systems and should be able to help out with the tuning.
