Anyone install a tranny temp gauge?

I was wondering if anyone has installed a water/oil temp gauge after they installed their tranny cooler? I was thinking of going with a Sunpro CP8217 gauge that's 2 inches in dia. it's black and goes from 100 to 250 degrees.
They also make a white and chrome one too (CP8207).

It looks like it will fit nicely in that little cubby hole right below the cig lighter. That cubby is too small to hold anything else really. Maybe there's another place to put the gauge that's better and easier to get through the firewall?

This gauge has a 6 ft. temp cable that comes off it and screws into a tee that you put in your tranny fluid line. The gauge is only around $25. at amazon or autozone and seems like a good way to keep an eye on your tranny temp.

Anyone install one of these? Any tips or advice? Thanks.

Ive heard if you buy a scan gauge 2 you can program it to read the tranny temps from stock sensor and it reads water temps. I need to send mine in to be updated for the tranny temp feature. might be the simplest way to get the temps. I def use the water temp all the time.

Scan gauge just plugs into the ob2 slot making it a super simply mod

I think a scan gauge is the best mod you can do. I use mine all the time.

Scangauge 2 can read the tranny temp on 99+ 4runners (96 - 98's do not have a temp sensor in the tranny), but you have to add in the code yourself, the codes are listed on this site somewhere.

Scangauge 2 will just plug into your ODBII port and will display a number of other readings as well.

I'm using Scangauge II on my 2000. Works like a charm and for the price you get several gauges in one.

Ditto. Plus it clears my pesky P0420 code I'm never going to fix.

It was about $169 and I got it at autozone. Specify that you want part# SG2. Don't just ask for a scanguage because they probably won't know what it is as it is a special order item, at least that's what happened to me. Mine arrived the next day.
