Yeah, watched that (have seen most of his videos). Looks like it's a pretty good tire, will be interesting to see how they really perform over a wider variety of vehicles/uses. Tires are so subjective, you need a bigger pool of opinions to really gauge how well they do. My guess is they will be a good tire, sure BFGoodrich will be pricing them accordingly. They'll probably be tough to get at times for a while too as they are rolled out (no pun intended, but it does work).

I theoretically won't be needing tires for a little while, but when I do, these'll probably be on the short list.

I just found him, and I like him so far. I've just sat and watch 3 of his videos about tires. I'm the same way, I won't need tires for a few years but I'm always doing research and keeping a list. I actually first saw the KM3s on a Jeep Fakebook group here in Alaska and I started to look into them.

The problem with the KO2's was they changed the chemical formula and added more silicone which made them wear fast. Can't recall what his conclusions on wear were with these but hopefully they fixed that. Here are some honest reviews for the KO2

He did mention (not in the vid that I posted) they did change the formula in the KM3 to address that. So that's good. At the end of his trip, he was looking for chips and such on this tires, and found few to none. He was quite impressed with that aspect.

I don't always need new tires. But when I do, I prefer [enter tire].

I need some new ones and dunno WTF to get. You read the reviews and every tire gets criticised. Some people like them, some hate them. I was thinking of the Falken Wilpeaks but then read here some guy hated his and couldn't balance them. I want a good general all around off road tire with good manners on pavement. I run Michelin LTX's now which I really like but they are more for pavement and light off road.

I feel you! I picked up these Kanati Tires just to test them out and Toyo was $$$. They weren't hard to balance, but it took a lot of weight to do it. For my first 35" tire, I'm happy with them because I'll put on a lot of highway use to get to the trails. And when I get to the trails, it's not anything extreme.

Now if I get down south and in AZ or some other place, I'll have to rethink my tire choice. I'm learning Arizona deserts are pretty hard on tires and their sidewalls.

I joined a couple Fakebook Groups in Arizona to learn how things are down there, and I think most hate the Falkens for their conditions. If I remember correctly, it was sidewall issues and, you're right, hard to balance.

Actually for the southwest my ltx's have done well. I have done lots of driving in baja and no sidewall problems. But I don't think they will do well in mud.

Personally I'm not a fan of the KM3 or BFGs in general, they just seem overpriced for what they are.

For the "next generation" of a tire I would have expected a more dramatic change. The tread pattern is very similar to the KM2, the only major change visually is the sidewall which now matches the KO2. They also didn't fix the issue that once the tire wears down little ways there is no siping or anything, just rubber blocks. I understand its a mud terrain but if you look at the other major companies, Falken, Toyo, Nitto. All of those mud terrains have siping that goes the full distance of the tread blocks.

Id agree though everyone has their specific needs and some will love them others wont. Me personally I plan to stick with falkens even if I were to go to a mud terrain. I'm on my second set of ATs now and have yet to have a flat or any major issues. I admittedly have cut two side walls but they never leaked and always got me home no matter where I was. And they were both cut by bad tire placement on my part, not the tires fault. They have always balanced well and wear decent as well. I also saw every truck on last years Ultimate Adventure running the Falken MTs through some of the nastiest deserts in the US and they didn't have a single flat.

I am keeping my eye on them. I might be trying a different tire out come the next DTD eBay sale, (Oct.). I feel like I want to try a more aggressive tire out this go-around. The tires on the list are Cooper ST Maxx, Cooper STT Pro, and maybe BFG KM3.

The chances in appearance seem fairly minor. The sidewall changed. Okay, not that big a deal. But the lugs, their layout, and spacing has changed slightly, as well as the compound. However, it is not lost on me that there is really no siping to speak of. The Coopers manage to put some siping on their STT Pros, BGG, not so much. I am interested to hear what people have to say about them though.

Where did you get this information from, everything I seen and tested indicates that BF took all the silica out of their truck tires and have unsuccessfully attempted to replace its performance benefits with orange oil.

I read it somewhere. You may be right. I knew it had something to do with silica or silicone.

They look pretty similar to me. Throw some "new technology" in a tire, rotate the center lugs, and here we are... The KM3's.

Road Bull, I'm big fan of Cooper Tires,
STT's 60-70k miles with good tread left when changed, two different sets 12yrs 285/75-16"E 8" wheels. Have'nt looked to see if compound was changed for Pro's if it has'nt been would say you should see same performance from Pro.

Again if no compound change. STT's, When I got 3/8" tread depth the rubber is hard I lost traction on morning dew pavement. Always easy to balance, minimal weight. Rotate 5k, rotate and balance 10k. Offroad they great, Pro pattern looks good for offroad to me.

Silver Runner 265/75-16"C AT3 OE 7" wheel. 12k miles wearing great, stay away from C ply 2 ply sidewall, not happy at all.

Have St Maxx 255/85-16" E on the way.

To me BFG's are overpriced always have been, I've run them years ago, I'm all about bang for the buck.

The compound for the STT Pro hasn't changed since they were introduced.

Was referring to STT compound vs STT Pro compound, the Pro is updated version of STT. My experience is with the STT not STT Pro wanted to make sure that was understood. No compound change would make it oranges to oranges so what I said should hold true.

Yeah, the Coopers are pretty much at the top of the list. I think one of the two will work fine for me. The fact that BFG didn't really try to sipe the new version should say a lot. I think the STT Pros have them beat in the MT department. And the ST Maxx offers a nice option between a more traditional AT like the KO2's and a full on MT. I can't say that I have any real complaints about the KO2's as they have performed well for me and I got them on the DT eBay sale pricing so I would say I got a fair deal. So, we'll see.

I did read a bunch of comments of people complaining about "pulling to the right" during braking with ST Maxx tires. They didn't seem to go too much into fully explaining much about the cause, but the consensus of the people's grievance seemed to focus on people who got new Coopers that pull to the right slightly due to tread pattern. I have no experience with them so I can't say, but judging by the poll, it seems that roughly a third of ST Maxx owners said that their tires pulled slightly right. :noidea: It could just be those crazy Taco guys, who knows. LOL.

You do know Nitto Ridge Grapplers are out in 285/75r16 don't you? Just sayin. lol

LOL, I saw that. It IS curious that the Nitto Ridge Grappler appeared, then disappeared from the Discount Tire Direct web site. I wonder what that's about. I think they might have pulled them to limited stock availability, but that is just a guess. I had seen them on the site, but it didn't say that they had them in stock the few weeks that they were there, so who knows. It might be an option if I can see them in the flesh.

A thing I did'nt mention, about half life the STT gets loud and louder. I see The Pro doing the same, normal MT loud, tired of that.

I read reviews of Maxx at DTD, Amazon, Tirerack, no mention of pulling I recall.
Will find out shortly I guess, Taco guys LOL.

Nope, not for me. I'm done with the whole MudTerrain KM line. I had the KM2 as my last set for over 8 years, put 60k miles on them. They wore very nicely, performed great in the dry and I ended up selling 8 years later for 300 bucks (I bought them for 800 bucks, so that's amazing value).

HOWEVER, they were SO dangerous in the snow/ice. I mean really, one of the most scariest driving experiences I've ever had. I know they're not true SNOW tires, but my goodness, it was like driving on skates.

I switched to the KO2 a few months ago and drove it up to snow (something I'd been avoiding for 7 years) and was very happy in its overall performance, I found it a much better well-rounded tire. Sure, if you're only ever driving in Mud, rock crawling and not driving in snow/rain, then the KMs are great, but I avoided going to snow for 7 years because of the KM2s were that bad, I don't see the KM3 doing any better.
