Anyone know what this wiring harness is?

My truck came with one of those dealer-installed Karr alarms that they try to upsell you. I declined the feature and they deactivated it, but they left the little button fastened to the lower dash. I went ahead and removed, and am left with this little wiring harness connecter that the device was plugged into. Is it supposed to be plugged in anywhere else? Or is it okay to just push it up and out of the way?

Bastards. I hate when they do that. Especially given the OEM Toyota alarm could be installed without chopping the factory wiring harness. I bought a new Tacoma a few years back and after driving it home found a bundle of wiring under my dash, tapped and chopped into the factory harness. I removed it, and being especially pissed, went down to the dealer a demanded a 100k platinum warranty. IT WORKED :whip2:

I just assumed it was installed there to get in the way of my foot when trying to set the parking brake. LOL

Seems like you had the same situation I did. Apparently, the dealer removed my alarm, too. I guess they didn't even bother to uninstall this interface.

EDIT: I posted before i saw your pic. Totally the same thing. You can see the purple wire in the harness on mine, leading into the port. I'm going to double check my sticker for installed options. I hope I didn't pay for an alarm that was hastily removed while I sat in the finance office. May explain why my other harnesses in the same area were not attached. Yep, that is exactly why your switches weren't connected. Port/dealer installed crap. That wiring is not OEM.

Seems like that's not all they left...I see two screw holes where they probably had the switch screwed to. I'd go back and have them replace it with a new panel on their dime.

EDIT: lols, never mind I just realized you said you removed the switch. What are you going to do about covering those holes, it would drive me nuts!

I don't know- It is kinda bothering me, but I'm trying not to be a primadonna about it. I might just go back to the dealer and ask them to replace the panel - I hadn't thought of so easy a solution. Thing is, the thing was drilled before I ever set eyes on it, even though I didn't notice it until I got home. I guess the dealer uses these alarms as part of some immobilizer system on their lot, just for their own protection, and then when you buy the car, they try to tack on the price of the alarm system to your deal (even though the car already has a factory alarm...). Anyway, if you decline, which I did, they deactivate the unit but leave it sitting in the car.

Yeah, same exact unit. At least they did more of a stealth install on yours, lol. This is why people hate car dealers and why I usually try to special order cars. They drilled holes in the damn front bumper, too, of course.

Well, if you ever come across my rig for sale steer clear. It's got scratches, door dings and a dent from a pesky rock. Also for a few roles in the plastic where I put my cb and cut out the in cab winch control. Sorry, heated seat controls won't sit in there correctly anymore.

Scratches and dings on a used 4x4 I don't mind. Holes drilled into the dash and bumper of a truck with 7 miles on the odometer? Yeah, bothers me a little bit.

I'm going to try and take advantage of the "pre-drilled" holes in the dash when it's time to fit a brake controller, so it may end up being a wash.

While we're on the topic of "Mystery Wires Under the Dash", what's this box? It's attached with a zip tie and totally blocking the ODBII port.



There is a green pot with MIN and MAX labeled at the outer ranges. Is this also part of the alarm? Sensitivity adjustment perhaps?

Dealer installed certainly.

Most certainly not port installed, unless the port out there isn't run by a Toyota group.
The only things that can be port installed by SET idealers are actual Toyota factory items. And if you special order a vehicle, and have things added at the port, you don't have to pay labor.
And I haven't seen a single hack job alarm system in any of the 4Runners I've looked at over the last 4 years at my local Toyota dealer.
That's absolutely ridiculous that dealerships pull that garbage in this day and age.

unfortunately my car has one too. I’d like to remove it but I’ll wait until it causes issues. The dealer tried to sell the activation to me for 1500 saying it was unhackable LOL! All it is does is disconnect the ignition wire, very easy to bypass.
