Anyone pulled a travel trailer with their T4R?

In the market for a trailer for camping and I was just wondering how well the T4R held up to towing and swaying etc.

I am keeping within the limits (7000lbs GVW on the V8,) so I'm wonding if anyone has pulled like a 26-30ft trailer (5-5500lbs.) or something of the sort.

All I've pulled is my seadoo (600lbs maybe - actually forgot it was even there!) and a 21ft boat once all of which are not long or as heavy.

What model and size of trailer you pulled would be beneficial.

The 4Runner is a surprisingly good tow vehicle. If you have the V8 option, you also get an upgraded receiving hitch, among other towing amenities, such as xmission and oil coolers.

I pull a 27ft trailer, see my sig for photo. Trailer sway is an issue for longer and taller trailers, especially if you've a short wheelbase on your tow vehicle. I believe the 4Runner is about 110 inches, which is a tad on the short wheelbase side.

To avoid sway on a longer trailer, you'll need good weight distribution (accomplished via proper hitch), and anti-sway (also accomplished through the hitch). The two best hitches are the Hensley, and the Pullrite. They are expensive, but you can get them on ebay all the time from folks who upgrade for instance to a 5th wheel.

The 4Runner pulls my 27ft trailer very well. It is so fun to be able to get away from everything, that's what camping and travelling is all about, to me.

I have a 2007 V8 Limited 4WD and pull a 2001 26' Trail Lite, about 4300 pounds dry, another 1000 when loaded. I use a Hensley Arrow hitch, which is a great investment. The T4R handles it well here in Colorado, even on the high mountain passes. Mileage while towing averages 10-12 mpg, which is better than my 1996 Tahoe did pulling the same camper.

If you live in/near Colorado, I am thinking about selling the camper and hitch, as my kid is 16 now, and would rather hang with his buddies than camp with mom and dad :nono:

I pull a 29ft TT with my v8. I would say that it is a tad on the heavy side for it but the 4R still does a fine job.

And you can even tow them through sand with ease.....
