Anyone put subs under the cargo system?

I want to upgrade my JBL 10 speaker system. From what I gathered on this board, it would make a huge difference to replace the front speakers with components, replace the rear doors with 6.5 2 ways, and change the headunit out and add an amp to power those speakers.

That's all good, but what about adding bass without eating up cargo room? I've seen the stealthbox, and like it, but it is expensive. I may end up building my own similar box, but I wanted to see if anyone has built a box to fit under the double decker cargo system. If so, what size, what type of enclosure, and what speakers? I was thinking about either 1 12" or 2 10" subs. Any feedback?

I'm going to do the same thing next week--totally new, high end stereo system. I'm opting for a sub that I can take out (maybe connecting with bannana clips?) when I need the space. I've done this in the past and it fits the bill 95% of the time. Personally, I want a system that I can swap back to original when the day comes to sell it as you never get any return on the money when it comes to stereo equipment.

Why 6.5s in the rear? I thought most people on this forum put 6x9s there and 6.5s or component up-front?

Actually, the 6 x 9's are in the rear, and 6.5's are in the front. I am opting to put 6.5's in both, but the components will go up front. Do a search, and you will see that this is what most people have done to their setup.

I agree with making the sub easily removable in case you need the room. Let me know what setup you go with.

Pioneer Premier DEH-P960MP deck, Rockford Fosgate Power T8004, Rockford Fosgate T10001bd, 3 farad digital cap, MTX enclosed 10" T9504 sub, Diamond Audio 6.5 high-end components up front....still deciding on what for the rear...maybe 2 way 6.5s based on your recommendation.
Optima Yellow top battery. Proper wiring. Dynamat-extreme all over.

Installation starts next Monday.

Definately won't fit underneath it, the thing is a beast, even for a 10". I'll conceal it with the cargo drape to help keep the riff-raff from knowing what is there.

Will do. What sort of hu are you putting in? I went with Pioneer because of their compatibility with our steering wheel controls and Ipod integration.

I just upgraded my entire stock system.

I went with an Pioneer AVIC-N2 head unit (with iPod integration, XM, and XM NavTraffic)
Boston Acoustic 6x9 coaxials in the front
Boston Acoustic 6.5 coaxials in the rear
Hsu Research ASW-1203 car sub driver in a 1.25cu/ft sealed enclosure
JL Audio e6450 amp powering everything

I am very much into home audio, so I wanted good sound in the car, but didn't want to break the bank.

I intended on getting seperates for the front, and did a lot of auditioning. They do sound a bit better, but for the cost difference, and being in the car, it did not seem to warrant the cost to me, especially when combined with road noise. I can not remember the model number of the coaxes I got...but I am very happy.

Hsu Research is an internet direct company, and well known for their audiophile quality home subwoofers, which I use in my home system. They make a sub driver for car use, so I decided to give it a try. I purchased the proper sealed enclosure from Q-Logic, and put it together. The sound quality is excellent, and rivals subs costing much, much more. I can not recommend it enough. It is not BOOM BOOM that you hear going down the street....although you can do that if you want.

Anybody in the SoCal area is welcome to a demo.

Nope. It is a removeable enclosure.

I thought about using a JL Audio Stealthbox, but too expensive.

I velcroed an old Bazooka subwoofer to the top of of one of the rear wheel wells. Velcro is the same color as the interior so I can move the Bazooka if needed. It fits under the Tonneau Cover for "peering eyes". Powered by an Alpine amp under the passenger's seat.
I'm looking for a bigger Bazooka for the other side.
