Anyone removed their rear (2nd row) seats?

I don't have kids...or friends :nono:. My dog rides in the back seat, i have a sling which goes over the front and rear headrests, leaving him a nice space and i use the rear foot wells for the tent, ez-up and his crap. I've been thinking of just removing the rear seats and building a platform i can just put a bed for him, gain some storage space, etc.

I thought i read here of someone doing something similar with at least part of the seat (i wish the 60 part of hte 60/40 split was on the drivers side...), but i couldn't find it.

Lawndart took out one side I believe. Probably in his thread.

Removing the back seats is easy

Every time we go camping I take the back seats completely out - seat back and seat bottoms. Takes me an hour, max. I carefully place all the parts in a tough plastic bag so they don't get lost. I put all of my heavy gear down low in the forward foot well, which is also near the middle of the car. Water bottles, come-along winch, air compressor and recovery gear all go there.

The back seats are out most of the time. I only put them back in when we're taking more than the two of us in the car or I need the floor space in the garage. The 60% portion of the seat back is heavy, due to the two seat belts that bolt through it I think. The other 3 parts are pretty light. Put the seats on a couple of 2x4s and cover them with plastic to keep them from getting dirty.
 
Took out the back seats for a long road/camping trip last year.
So great having that extra leg room when sleeping in the back. And the extra storage space.
Fabricated a flat surface out of some nice smooth plywood, think I bought a pre-cut 4' square piece at Lowes and cut it to fit. Get something smooth so you don't get splinters in your a$$.
Used some pipe insulation glued on the edge of plywood by doors to avoid splinters and rubbing on interior, suppose you could use some wood trim as well.
Wish I had taken some pics of what I did, wasn't fancy but came out pretty sweet and sturdy.
Think you can find some pics of others who have done the same.

Hey, that makes two of us! Although my old girl rides shotgun as often as not.

I removed both rear seat bottoms, and the 60 part of the split back. I use the 40 part of the split for a couple molle panels to strap junk to, but I'll probably remove it, too, before long. I built a two part platform for the back: the main part over the whole of the cargo area, the second part over the deleted 60 seat. I stapled some cheap indoor/outdoor carpetting over it, threw the dog bed in back, and now both the dog and I ride and sleep in comfort.

I wasgoing to make a third peice of platform for over the40 split seat, but my poor, old, decrepit girl would have an even harder time getting in if she had climb up any higher than the foot well.

I'd post pics, bur I don't have pic-hosting account anywhere, so... Use your imagination and pretend it looks really slick and proffesional!

And be assured that removing the seats is really easy, and you won't regret doing so.
 
Sorry as I said I didn't take any pics and its not installed right now and no plans to put it in any time soon. Wish I had thought to at the time.
It's been a while since I looked at my parts and see now that I did cover the plywood with some cheap indoor/outdoor carpet from Lowes. Used some velcro on the edges to hold it in place.

I mainly wanted a place for my dog to sit on while driving. But still wanted to be able to have a front passenger and someone in the rear left spot.
