Anyone replace cigarette lighter?

My wife broke the cig lighter stay, so I replaced it with the factory part. Just replaced the stay and lens, not the socket itself. What a pain. Anyway, the socket is tough to get connected and stay connected when reinserting. I THINK it's connected- but when i plug anything into it, the ACC fuse pops without fail. I've gone through 3 fuses so far. Could it be the socket itself??

Wish I could help but I need a new one too. I want to up grade to 2 adaptors like the '01 models but don't know how.

its sounds like u are trying to run too much power or you have a bad ground

Any idea how to check the ground wire on this? It's basically got factory connectors- i think the socket is still connected, because it pops a fuse when something is plugged into it- even a simple phone charger. Checking the ground sounds correct, but..how?

what size fuse are u putting in it? may try another bigger one

Funny you should ask- I put a 20 amp fuse in there- no risk of blowing the radio or another accessory with a larger amp fuse?

OK, as it turns out, I didn't need a larger amp fuse. It was my SAT radio that was blowing the fuse. After I removed it, everything is now OK from the lighter and running on the 15 AMP ACC fuse under dash.

All is well and I thank everyone for thier responses! Now that I think about it, I should have done a write up on this with pix...next time..
