Anyone running Icon Coil Overs

Hey Guys, new to the forum here, but not to cars or mechanics. I picked up a 97 Limited 4x4 with E locker last October when my Scion was totaled. Im now starting to look at lifts and havent really found anyone running the Icon Vehicle Dynamics Coil Overs. I can get a great deal on them through a friend and wanted to know if anyone has much experience with them. I read through the lift kit thread and really didnt see much other forum members that ran coil overs that were not Toytech. Any info would be useful.

I don't have the icons, or even a runner yet, but iv been running around this place for a while now. Everything I have heard is that the icons are fantastic.

There is some debate on if the rebuildability of the icons is worth it over the toytecs. Some people like the set and forget aspect with the bils, and have pointed out that unless you can rebuild the icons yourself, your truck is going to be down for a week or so while you send them to get rebuilt.

Based on my readings here, the icons are just an all around better set up. Not that anyone who has the toytec setup isn't super happy with it. The icons are supposed to be better on and offroad. If you can get a deal, I say do it.

I have another question to further my decision process. Camburg is just around the corner from my work, and I plan on getting upper control arms, whether I will be able to afford to get them at the same time as the coil overs is a different story. If I purchase the long travel version of the Icon and install it without a uniball upper control arm will it damage the shock? Or is the stock uca just going to limit the amout of travel?

I think the shock will be fine. You'll only hurt the upper ball joint of the stock upper control arm I believe since it will be limiting your travel, as you stated.

You will only damage the upper ball joint. And it wont take long if you wheel often. If you dont its not worth the money to get the extended Icons. In all actuality the Standard coil-over and the Extended coil-over are the same, its just the standard has a stopper inside to keep it from fully extending.

Icons are great coil-overs and they have wonderful customer service. So are Camburg's coil-overs and UCA's. You will not have any complaints with that set-up.
